I appreciated how he lets the reader inside his life to understand how and why he writes. There are excellent tips for a beginner like me.
After I finished this book, I did read "Christine". It felt as if I had just spent time with the author and then he handed me one of his books. I could pickup some of what he was talking about in "On Writing" while reading "Christine".
While still not a fan (I just don't care for the content), I appreciate the author and am glad he choose to give us "On Writing" so that we can learn from him....more

When I think of this book, Roorback's advice that first comes to mind is squeezing out all the meaning from each word, sentence, and paragraph. I also heard him saying, as I was going through my editing, "Does this move the story forward."
I'm not sure what grade he would give my book but I found this teacher to be a great mentor for those who do not want to let our stories die with us....more
