i mean... it's a "romance" that never romanticizes the fucked up shit the main characters have done. i mean the H is a damn serial killer. and yet somehow you want to root for these two people to go all bonnie & clyde and just kill bad guys.
this book probably won't change your life and i think some of the psychology was dubious and a little overdone. but you feel both sophisticated and fucked up while reading, which is just how i like my dark romance.

i'm sure i've read books with similar premises before and enjoyed them but god damn what is sexy about this.

jacking ur wiener to the thought of making some girl fatherless is fucking weird. ejac'ing into someone because the thought of her "swelling with ur child to make her dad mad" is equally nuts.
i think we're supposed to be like "oh wow he's conflicted cause he wants to ruin her to ruin her dad but awwww he also likes using her as his personal twinkie that's so sweet" but i literally do not get it.
i'm an old hag maybe just ignore me. but i want relationship development. i want nice conversation. light choking is also fine! this on the other hand. not for me....more

the title of this book is presented to us within the first 10% of this book when our hero asks, whilst impaling the heroine on his cock, "does it hurt bella" (b/c he's italian of course)
i was simply sent clear into another dimension. i tried, i really did try, to throw away all sensibility and just have a good time but the good times never came. unlike our heroine who came multiple times during the first sexual encounter at the 10% mark of this book.
story starts out with a girl escaping from we're not really sure what circumstances and taking a flight to australia. we quickly find out she's an identity thief and she takes the identities of men with unisex names that she has sex with. she gets a stick and poke tattoo at a bus stop. she gets hammered at a bar. she meets a guy who takes her to a remote cave and they have lots of squirty sex.
i'm just confused. was i supposed to swoon when she offers up her unprotected coochie to a stranger? giggle at the quirk of a tattoo from a different stranger? this isn't a dark romance this is SILLY.
this is one of the wackiest, worst romances i've ever read. melodramatic and corny to begin with and totally flies off the rails by the 50% mark. and this is one of the wackiest, worst romances i've ever read. melodramatic and corny to begin with and totally flies off the rails by the 50% mark. and i can overlook corny, i'm not too good for corny romances but
the handling of rape and mental illness? YIKES babes. as a certifiable loony bitch, hearing mia talk about "manic episodes" had me rolling my fucking eyes. you punched a wall, you're not bipolar love. and i can't begin to express how bizarre the handling of rape was. like truly, who thought this should be multiple major plot points???
i'm tired. and a lil upset that this is the last book i had to read for an otherwise really nice video. avoid. avoid. avoid. like seriously, even for a "dark" romance. you can do better....more

i just don't think this book knew what it wanted to be. there was STRONG insta-lust and a decent bit of smut. and a lot of attempts at plot. and a lot of possessiveness induced by our heroine having an attacker that the hero wants to protect her from.
i think this would have been more entertaining as a smutty novella, cutting down on 100 pages and ditching the assault plot line. i get that mafia romances tend to veer into dark romance territory but reading multiple on page descriptions of assault and then a few pages later our heroine jumping into bed with the hero just didn't feel well handled. the beginning of this book was delightfully silly and i was looking forward to a breezy mafia read with an alpha hero but once it turned weirdly dark it just wasn't for me.
might be for you if you're really on the hunt for a possessive alpha. those seem to be harder to come by these days....more

i was ready for nuanced emotion and trauma healing but it all felt pretty hollow and underdeveloped. i didn't understand the characters well enough to care about their relationship. and the ending felt too easy idk....more
