the characters basically hook up on page one and continue their "love affair" without much change or growth until very late in the book. there's multiple times that the characters have opportunity to come clean to the people around them around their relationship but they just... keep putting it off.
also i'm coming to find that characters coming to sudden realizations really doesn't work for me. feels kinda lazy.
all of that being said, i still appreciated the sex appeal here and would read more from this author in the future....more

doesn't help that i recently read one of my favorite FF romances of all time. but even without that comparison, this one was just a let down. the main issue is the relationship development. i get that the girls were trying to get their parents together so that they themselves could get together but sooooo much time was spent on the parent's relationship. the girls had a couple hangouts and then one of em was like SMOOCH and then it was like "oh my god i love you"
and then stuff tears them apart for a pretty large portion of the book? it just frankly didn't feel like a romance! and the surrounding plot wasn't enough to carry the book. i am sad....more

but i'm once again let down. i liked the characters individually but felt zero chemistry between the two of them. i also think your enjoyment of this will depend on if you like quiet romcoms. i typically do not. i like angst and tension and this book had neither. the only points of conflict also annoyed me rather than adding richness to the story. idk prolly my last try with this author....more

I'm very new to the sequential art game. The two that I have read have been finished or almost finished and have taken me at least a couple of days to read. So this was a very strange experience for me, especially given how excited I was for it.
content The story so far is pretty intriguing, though there's not much to it other than what is mentioned in the synopsis. Essentially, new amateur to the fencing world takes on a famous fencer in a regional competition. We get a little bit of a backstory, mostly through imagery/background art of the panels and it was all very well done. I'm definitely interested in knowing more about Nicholas' life. And of course, we get a little cliff hanger.
Also: how it possible to already feel sexual tension in such a short lil book? Pacat is a genius.
art It was absolutely gorgeous. I'm by no means a professional sequential art reader but this is definitely the best art I've read/looked at so far. The emotion on the faces was so nuanced, the panels very well thought out, and the use and nonuse of words to accompany panels was perfect (sometimes I find that too much or too little text can take away from the overall story).
I really do think you should all buy this... but maybe wait and buy it once the second one comes out as well? Might just be my sad, quick reading heart talking. But anyway, Pacat didn't disappoint.

this book was tough. i LOVED the Armenian culture included and i loved the family and side characters, they made the story feel richer for sure. but tthis book was tough. i LOVED the Armenian culture included and i loved the family and side characters, they made the story feel richer for sure. but the romance? and the main female protag? hard to like.
not every character has to be perfect but i do need to be able to understand or sympathize with their decisions. but Nar had some big dumb ass moments that didn't seem to gel with who she is supposed to be. like afraid to stick up for herself but also defies her boss in a big way? idk felt inconsistent. and the way she treated her love interest... good lord. cowardly and fucked up.
and at moments i rooted for the romance but the majority of the time i was confused. Nar wanted to date this girl SO BAD and then we see pretty much no relationship development. something that seems pretty normal for traditionally published romance. there's like maybe a date or 2 but that's it.
the ending tho was incredibly satisfying. i did get mildly emo. so i have no idea how to rate this one so i'll settle on a 3....more

wanted it to be a little more romantic. 2 seemingly straight dudes confess their love after doing porn together and after only 1 conversation about it seems a little far fetched imo. not the worst thing i’ve ever read and i def appreciate a MM romance written by a dude. but not a slam dunk for me.
also WAY too much use of the m-slur w/ regards to little people. this was written in 2011 but cmon. ...more
