For me one of the things that makes a book, movie , or any kind of storytelling immersive is something very simple . When a character references something that happened in a previous scene or episode it makes me feel like everything the writer does in intentional . This series does it so well . It's planned so masterfully with every character and event tying together , and during my first listen through in years ( and now as a writer ) I'm honestly blown away .
A lot of people tend to label this sort of thing as " preachy religious garbage" ,but it never felt that way to me . With characters so unique and life like , and just the way the story is told it feels like a labour of love .
The voice acting is marvelous as are the sound effects .
My one complaint is that sometimes the parents are a little over the top with the things they scold thier kids about . They sometimes mistake curiosity for rudeness . One of the things I love about them as parents is that they always admit they are wrong , they don't talk down to thier kids , and when they discipline thier children they always explain what they did wrong ....more

It pierced my soul in a way I was not expecting . It left me feeling convicted , like a dear friend had taken my hands and said " I love you which is why I tell you this ."

I was certainly not expecting to cry so much while reading, what I thought was a ' cozy mystery' . We often think of the war being over with when the last battle ends or the documents promising peace are signed ,but for many soilders that is not so .
The author paints a heartbreaking picture of the wounds both seen and unseen that war leaves on soilders and nurses .
One of the leading characters Billy talks about going for walks in the wee hours of the night where he sees fellow soilders wandering around because they are unable to escape the terror even in their sleep .
Maisie paints a brutal picture of what war is truly like ; mere boys falling to the onslaught some left so scarred that those who loved them couldn't stand to look at them anymore . Even less often we think of the terrors that doctors and nurses have to see . Doctors working shifts lasting more than a day trying to fix mere boys who've been blasted to pieces , then on to the next before the last breath even leaves the dying man's lungs . Needless to say this book has left me forever changed .
While I truly enjoyed the story , was the middle chapters . Nearly half of the book should have been a prequel , information dumps in the middle of the story is never a good thing . ...more
