This book felt like it started off really slow, but once you got past the first 25% of the book, it felt like it really kicked into gear, and it was really enjoyable. You do end up rooting for the two main characters because they are both likable, and the relationship between them feels well done and organic.
Also, this book gave me the vibes of that season of the Bachelor with Spencer Matthews....more

This was a good and varied collection of true crime cases from across the UK, though I find myself a little disappointed that there were no cases from Birmingham. There were cases that were extremely famous, such as the case of James Bulger, and then cases that were described as famous, but a quick Google search shows that there isn't much written about them.
For some odd reason, the book is written in present tense, and it really threw me....more

2024 52 Book Challenge Mini Challenge - Summer 2024, Olympic Themed 19) Team - Double Letter Word In Title
This book lived rent free in my head for the couple of days that it took to read it. I loved it so much. I loved the way it encapsulates "fandom life" through the blog and the comment section throughout the book.
While the end villain was pretty easy to figure out early on, I guessed correctly between pages 35-50, there were some twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat, wanting to skip work to keep reading.
I just thought that it was a really good book....more

I really enjoyed this anthology (insofar as much as you can enjoy reading about murderers) and I liked that it was about British killers. I especially liked that the cases ranged across Britain, and didn't focus on London, which is a common thing to focus around in other British anthologies....more

This book was so boring. I just kept waiting for something to happen, and nothing actually did. The stakes for the main character felt completely false, as she is living in poverty trying to take care of her sister and constantly gambles away the money for their rent - and attacks her brother for doing the same thing. Her brother is a bad character, and you're supposed to dislike him, but this just puts the main character down as a hypocrite. The only difference is that she's winning by cheating.
Also, I know that the book is set in France, so I'm already imagining that the characters are speaking French, but then the author sprinkles in random French words all the time? Are they not already speaking French? Am I supposed to think that all this time they're speaking English? Honestly, it really pulled me out of the book every time I saw the French words....more

This is the type of book that there isn't actually much wrong with it, but you still struggle to get through and finish it. There wasn't much of a plot, other than kids bullying each other, talks of sex, bulimia, drugs and alcohol, and did anybody know that Jenny is a fourteen year old girl with size 34D breasts? It is mentioned in basically every chapter, so well done to the author on hyper sexualising a fourteen year old....more

I love these books, I think they're brilliant, and I love that the cases are nearly always cases that the average person wouldn't know.
However, this latest book falls a little flat to me because it feels like it has a lot more cases that don't feel like they have any answers. Either the reason why the murders occurred, or bodies aren't found, or the murderer not found....more
