My favourite part of the book was definitely the writing, it felt rather unique, especially for a contemporary. I thought the jokes were funny and I found the main message of the novel to be relevant and important to the modern audience. The plot was also interesting until around half way it got way too complicated and decided to comment on too many things at once, plus the characters simultaneously became quite unlikable and I couldn't exactly root for anyone at that point.
Overall, I liked the first half of the book and the ending but the middle part was sometimes too frustrating to be actually enjoyable.

This is a story about a young orphan who turned out to be the sole heir to a famous clan of witches. And the book actually was as cool as this premise sounds. It was quite dark and mysterious, the characters had distinct personalities, and even though the villains kind of felt like they stepped out a fairy tale, it added to the overall atmosphere and witchiness of the novel. It's definitely an interesting book with some strong autumn vibes, so check it out if that sounds like your thing....more

Oh, how I wish I liked this novel. But from the very beginning my personal tastes didn't agree with the writing style which can either be attributed to the translation or the original novel, I have no idea. Also, I found the characters to be bland and the story was slow. The setting is luxurious, though, and if you like the writing, you will probably enjoy this book more than I did....more

This turned out to be quite a fun ride and an interesting take on "Stardust" by Neil Gaiman. It was a tad too dramatic and confusing for me at times, but I still appreciated the story and all the Hindu mythology tightly interwoven with the plot. Also, I must add that this is one the prettiest covers I've seen this year, it's simply breathtaking. Huge kudos to the artist, they really captured the essence of the novel in it....more

Erin Entrada Kelly has such a huge talent for writing complex and intriguing characters and this novel was no exception. She did a great job of capturing the beginning of adolescence and the confusing feelings and desires that come with it. And all of this was very seamlessly tied to the topic of space exploration and made for a very raw and meaningful story. ...more

I really wanted to enjoy this book more, it has some very cool world-building and mythology, the characters were diverse and had some coll banter from time to time. But the story just wasn't interesting to pull me in, I didn't feel the urge to continue reading it even at the major plot points. I still think this novel has its audience and it's in no way a bad story, I simply wasn't into it....more

The premise and setting for this book were very interesting and yet the story itself wasn't nearly as exciting as it could've been. I still liked the messages this book discussed, like friendship, feeling isolated and loss of your loved ones, but I wasn't a fan of the execution which was frankly quite boring....more

I really enjoyed this novel, even though it wasn't what I expected it to be. I especially enjoyed the way the friendship was described and how it was the driving force of the plot. It was a bit too wordy in places and the pacing was off which messed with the flow a bit. But it was still a very heartwarming story that was definitely worth reading. Plus the cover is beyond gorgeous....more

I quite liked this book, especially the first part of it that is set in San-Francisco. The writing was good, I even highlighted some nice quotes and sayings. But after some time, the main character started to grate on my nerves a lot, I understood her concerns and struggles or at least tried to, but she was being such a negative Nancy and at some point, I didn't want to read about her anymore. However, I understand that I'm not this books's primary reading audience so if you think you're - then you might enjoy this novel a lot more....more

I really don't know what's up with me and YA arcs that I've been reading but most of them bore and/or confuse me so much, I can't relate to any of the characters, and the worldbuilding is messy as hell. This one is no exception, only the writing made it even harder to understand what is going on. So I was very interested in this concept but now I have no interest whatsoever in reading the sequel....more

I quite enjoyed this first book in a series, though I could tell that it still needs some polishing and more world and character development. This could be attributed to the fact that I read an early arc of the book (it doesn't even have a cover yet) so I'm interested in reading the finished copy. And I can tell that if you didn't like Sara Holland's previous duology "Everless", you might like this one because it's quite different in genre, plot, and characters.

This historical romance has a very ambitious premise that is heavily based and influenced by Jane Austen's novels. And I think that was actually a huge setback for the novel because it was just trying to mimic other books and it didn't feel like its own thing half the time. All the Jane Austen references became very annoying at some point, almost as much as Vicky, one of the main characters. I still really enjoyed the writing, the historical setting and how detailed the book was but overall, it wasn't my favourite....more

I think my expectations for this novel were too high with the premise of lesbian enemies to lovers but the actual execution was bland, in my opinion. Both Crier and Ayla had boring POVs and their romance wasn't convincing. There was a lot of info-dumping from the very beginning in a form of dates from history books which threw me off right away. Overall, I was not a fan and I'm not going to read the sequel....more
