I also wasn’t feeling him and Kate together so that was another downside. One is always whining about how she’s too good for him, and the other is defending him from his sins. It’s way too familiar and easily boring. Oh and super annoying.
The bonus in this entire book was the location. Set in downtown Toronto I knew the places she was describing and that’s al kinds of refreshing to read in a novel.
Other than that, I say you can probably skip this series. The only reason I would read the rest is to find out why Julia is so “damaged” in the first place....more

Okay I skimmed through most of the chapters, but I got a good inkling of what happened. I can understand how mentally unstable Christian Grey can be and how his need to control Ana and her life only to protect her, but good lord he needs to stop. Ana wasn't as annoying here as she was in the first book. Less inner goddess monologue. She actually thinks like an independent woman and most of her fights with Christian involve him meddling in her life. But then she forgives him, so every single time they're fighting on and off. It got super boring. I skipped most of the sexy scenes because I can't help but giggle every time she said his name and he would say "Oh baby." What wonderful dialogue there was.. *crickets* Jack Hyde was promptly added in as a "villain" and so was the stalker Leila and Mrs. Robinson. Oh and did I mention that all of this took place in the span of two weeks? WHO does that? Don't you just want to yell and scream and run the other way? Yes he has some messed up issues but he really needs to fix that before he starts a serious relationship. That ending seemed interesting, they should really make this a psychological horror or even thriller. Now that would be interesting to read instead of whatever it is I just read. I think I just wanted to know what happens because I wanted to be on the inside of this so-called literary phenomenon.....more

Meh.. This main character is way too whiny and selfish for me. Sure she gets it from both her parents who are insanely immature, but once she's with the Caulfields she starts to realize how wrong she was. Even though she was at her worst and things happened to her so quickly, it had to do with her Daddy Issues, I still couldn't like anything about her. Even if she redeemed herself in the end. I think she was just too selfish to like. And being with her step-brother is just way too Gossip Girl for me. I dunno, but this one annoyed the heck out of me. I know she's young, I know she's going to do stupid immature things, but I couldn't help but dislike her. There's also absolutely no plot. No big dance to go to where the final plot climax would be revealed, just her family issues really. They were the most interesting to say the least. Maybe I'm just not in the most relatable mood but good God this is one of those teenage characters that have the "it's-all-about-me" and IDAF about-anyone-else" mentality. I hope everyone else has better luck with this one. ...more

Because these two sure know how to keep their flirtations going and going. I thought the second half needed a lot more work. It was too extended and too slow that I eventually just started skimming. While Jesse is on a field trip to the UN with his new found friends, American Dave, Taiwanese Mini, and British Anna, the subway he was riding explodes. They all survive and decide to head out of the subway tunnels to get help. What they find is a world in utter chaos. Bodies burning everywhere, and the ones who are alive seem to be…thirsty. Thirsty for any liquid drink but most of all the desire for human blood.
Now, the plot for this book isn’t trying to find out how the virus happened and stopping it. It’s about survival in its most simplest form. It’s an every day recount of how Jesse and his friends try to survive and if it wasn’t for that massive twist in the end, I would have rated this 2 out of 5. I get how incredibly mundane a world would be without technology, food or even normal people going about their daily lives, but what I wanted was action. The title alone is a verb AND a noun so why couldn’t there be more of both? sighs This book had a lot of potential. It was an interesting take on the zombie-apocalypse, yet it fell flat and downright boring. I was so bored, I almost stopped reading it. Alas, I have a stubborn personally and kept plowing through, even though it bored me to tears.
That ending was definitely new. I did not see that coming. What a twist! At least I was satisfied with the ending and I didn’t feel it was a waste of time.
Characters Good, but I wanted to know more.
Pacing Stop and go at times, but it was pretty good enough to keep going.
Cover/Design Good and completely targets the target audience which is boys.
Plot Great plot, but I wanted more..
Overall, I suggest skipping this one, but if you like twist endings, then go for it!...more

Another Morgan Manson read and I enjoyed it! So lots of just every day musings and such but I believe it's to develop characters and their relationships so I didn't mind. Though it was boring to say the least. I still had to know what happened at the end and I was tearing along as I read. It was cute and sweet and heartfelt. A perfect summer read, I give this one four stars out of five. <3...more

These two made me bounce around and want to scream and yell at them but also cry and console them all at the same time. They both have such horrors in their lives and you feel so much for them. At the same time you can't fault them for why they're both so possessive and controlling, jealous and secretive. The plot finally picked up in the middle when we finally see why Gideon is so secretive. I knew he was doing something for the good of the relationship but all Eva could see was how wrong she was for him. Eva also annoyed me whenever she would fight with him over all the little things even though she had a right to be. I just wished she were more understanding. She was also super annoying when she would explain how beautiful and gorgeous everyone she met was. EVEN HER PARENTS. I find it uncomfortable she describes her parents as hot and good-looking. Yikes!
Oh and the sex scenes? They were just on fire.. My cheeks would flame up when I would read some scenes, I thought they were done pretty darn well.
If you like your romance with a side of tortured characters with demons in their past, you'll enjoy reading this series. They're both addicted to each other yet they try to live their individual lives, it was highly entertaining....more

Mira lives with her two godmothers, they're kind and thoughtful but also very strict. They don't let her do much only because they're so protective. A week before her sixteenth birthday she runs away to Beau Rivage where she was born and where her parents have died. She's determined to find her parents graves. Instead she finds a town where people are different, they seem to be like characters from a fairy-tale. And when one of them reveals the same sort of strange birthmark on their backs, she realizes there's more to this story than she knows.
I basically read this and thought “Ooh it's just like Once Upon a Time the TV show.” It had the same elements where fairy-tale characters are brought to life and are living in modern times. Except it had its own plot. I love the darker tales that combined the fairies and humans which in return created these magical descendants. I like how each of the characters even had similar lives and even the same personalities. The pacing was good, and the writing was too.
What it truly lacked was the characters and their development. Now I know the main character is supposed to fall in love. It's a given right? But holy balls, it was so sudden. It's taking love at first sight quite literally. I just couldn't understand why. I had a theory and it was wrong but I wished it was right. Even though there was so many fairy tale characters and their store like Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, I still couldn't get over the lack of character development.
I wanted to love this one, but I just couldn't. I'd still give it a try for the wonderful fairy tale curse with a modern day twist....more

What annoyed me the most was the emotional angst and the back and forth, on and off again relationship Eva and Gideon shared. They're both traumatized by theirs pasts and we do find out the past of one, but not the other and that bothered me. I found their fights to be so over the top and downright ridiculous. Many times I felt that Eva was making something into nothing, while Gideon had no barriers for privacy whatsoever. I would be beyond pissed if he pulled stuff like that on me. I also couldn't fathom why Eva had to explain how beautiful every character she knows. We get it, everyone is a Barbie and Ken doll in your fictional world.. It doesn't have to be repeated. I found Gideon to be positively overbearing, controlling and super possessive. He had his sweet moments though. His physical description made me imagine Henry Cavill the entire time,so that was fun. As for Eva, I had no idea why she felt like she wasn't worthy of Gideon. She would dismiss her worth all the time and it bothered me so much. I liked Cary in the beginning but after what he did to his love, I started to detest him. And what's up with his "baby girl" nickname? It's just as annoying as "Inner Goddess."
Overall, I say pick it up for the steamy sexy scenes, but lack of character development and a page turning story eventually made me feel like it wasn't finished. Hopefully these are fixed in the sequel.

Penelope has OCD. Her dad doesn't understand her. Her mom drugs herself up all day and stays in bed. Her older brother only died a year ago, but everything changed when it happened. When she ends up in Neverland, a neighbourhood full of crime and homeless children, she ends up witnessing a murder of a stripper. She feels the need to solve the crime and to find out who killed her even if someone went down for the crime already. What she finds is a harrowing mystery and ends up in love with a boy from Neverland who is unlike anyone she's ever met.
The Butterfly Clues is no ordinary murder mystery. Instead of seeking revenge for someone who is close to her, she ends up on this harrowing journey to find out who killed someone she doesn't know. That didn't make sense at all until you get to the end that is. I liked that Lo was different than other characters I read because she was the first one I've read that had OCD. It's not an easy disorder. She can't leave a place without tapping three times and saying, "banana." I have never witnessed anyone with this disorder but reading it through her eyes, I can understand why. They need order and control and that is the thing they can control, even if it's odd or out of their own control.
At times, this book just made me sad. It was surely depressing reading through her eyes. What her brother went through, what her parents went through and obviously what she went through. It kind of broke my heart to read what happened. I did think the whole murder was suspicious and I guessed who the murderer was the moment they appeared in the book. It's fairly predictable but at least it was entertaining. I also felt like it dragged on and on. There's a good time to end a book and I thought there were several great ones. When the reader finds out who the killer is, they lose interest. At least I did in this case so I skimmed ahead until the very end.
Through the eyes of an OCD teenage girl, The Butterfly Clues is a little bit depressing and also an exciting journey where she finds out who is behind all these murders in her city....more

What do you do when you have have four hell hounds after you? You run like crazy and hope they stop. Not headstrong Nikki who stands her ground and tries to fight them off until three Halflings help her.
Halflings are exactly what they sound like, the offspring of fallen angels and human women. Talk about complicated! They're not allowed in heaven nor do they want to spend eternity in hell, so they opt to stay in the midplane.
No other Halflings know this better than Mace, Will and Vine. Three young angels who are assigned to protect Nikki. The reason is unknown and throughout the novel they try to figure out why.
I'm always one to read angel themed novels, and Halflings is no exception. It had a wonderful combination of mystery and romance that I had to know why Nikki is so special. And the little love triangle and unforgivable sin that Halflings must not do keeps the intensity of their love rising.
This is a great quick read but it lacked answering all the questions that I had in the end. Maybe it will be answered in the next book? I look forward to it....more
