My first Adam Silvera! I had been meaning to get to his books for years and finally I got to one and damn did it impress me. I really, really loved the progression of both Rufus and Mateo where this ended up being my favourite part of the book. They were highly likeable characters - even though Rufus punches a guy in the face at the very beginning. The big downside was that TbdatE was full to the brim of happy coincidences and ex-machinas taking away the realistic part of a contemporary novel with a twist. The ending tugged at my heartstrings and I wanted to cry. Not exaggerating, my heart physically ached thinking about Mateo and Rufus because their relationship was so well written, why Silvera?? Honestly, even if you're not even into YA novels like me usually, this one may surprise you.

The Wrong Beds
Life is a hospital ward, and the beds we are put in are the ones we don’t want to be in. We’d get better sooner if put over there by the window. Or by the radiator, one could suffer easier there.
At night we dream of faraway places: The Côte d’Azure, all perfume and light. Or nearer home a cottage in the Cotswolds, a studio overlooking the sea. The soul could be happier anywhere than where it happens to be.
Anywhere but here. We take out medicine daily, nod politely, and grumble occasionally. But it is out of our hands. Always the wrong place. We didn’t make our beds, but we lie in them.
The book included so many different themes from depressing ones to silly poems that made you laugh. For a bumpy but enjoyable ride, read this....more

It's still a good read!
It's a very fun book which is the most important thing when reading in my opinion, that the enjoyment is still there. The characters were really interesting to re-visit, I love the way Ness has written them to feel realistic and you can't help feel happiness but also sadness multiple times throughout. He makes you feel for them and so a connection is made between the reader and the characters.
I gave this 4 stars the first time however this time I'm going to bump this down slightly to 3.5 because while the enjoyment is there, I can realise the amount of things that just don't make sense or are unexplained within. Some creatures/characters are introduced in this book that are not mentioned again later on at all. Makes it slightly frustrating when you want to understand more and nothing is given.
Other than that, this book was a wild ride and I massively enjoyed it. I remember book 2 being my favourite and being even more of a roller-coaster so I can't wait!...more

I really enjoyed the premise of this book. The plot was original and the characters (especially Lyra) were pretty likeable. I’ll admit at times I completely zoned out of the audiobook and had to go back to understand what was going on but the writing was fairly simple making it an easy read.
I thought it was odd the book kind of had a ’fuck the Church’ message towards the end? At least that’s what I got from the religious parts of it, not sure if it’s what Pullman intended.
Overall a good read. Not an epic/high fantasy at all, but a nice and simple one to enjoy on rainy days....more
**spoiler alert** Okay, I didn't dislike this at all. But compared to the 5 full stars I gave Vicious, yes this was a tad disappointing. The book just felt a bit empty with regard to the characters. Jonathan for example was there just as an extra character to help Marcella out at times and there just wasn't a chance to connect with him, making him neutral throughout the book - I couldn’t like or dislike him. He definitely could've had a larger purpose.
June, who I'm incredibly jealous of her power of shape shifting, was probably my favourite character out of the group of 'villains'. (all the characters are villains really) However she didn't really develop a whole lot either in my opinion and I didn't think she had much reason to want to protect Sydney so much since she met her only once.
My main problem was the whole ending? I didn't like the huge build up with Marcella Riggins where I was expecting a huge ending with her character and her being given an actual decent death. You're thinking 'SHE NEARLY KILLED ELI AND HELPED WITH THE COLLAPSE OF THE BALLROOM FLOOR WITH A GLASS DOME WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??' but it just wasn't... exciting enough?? There were so many scenes about Marcella wanting to become the whole mafia boss and ruler of whatever but she didn't do a whole lot apart from killing the former bosses in one chapter. Her character was used for uninteresting reasons and it’s a pity because she could’ve been phenomenal.
Eli was basically in a prison the whole time till the very end and so the scenes with him in were not all that interesting to read about. And we don't find out if Victor solves his problem even after the whole book where he’s searching for a cure. The next book better give some answers.
Seems like a whole lot of negatives but there were many things I really did enjoy about this book, the writing especially since it's just as captivating as the first book making me want to read on. It was difficult to put this book down when reaching the end of a chapter.
I especially loved the character of Dominic Rusher, a new favourite and bad ass recruit in Victor's crew. I really enjoyed reading his dialogue and I would love for Sydney to bring him back in the next book although it's likely he won't because EON aren't that stupid to leave superhuman bodies lying around :(

*the writing was easy to listen to (I listened to the audiobook) *i liked davis and daisy, aza was okay *the representation of OCD and mental health was fairly well done (I think John Green used some of his experience in this book)
things I didn’t like:
*how over the top the writing was. 17 year olds don’t speak like that???? *how the plot is described as a hunt for Davis’ dad but 50% of the book is just Asa? *the ending was STUPID (as in the whole dad, tunnel, Aza, money, lizard thing IM TRYING MY BEST NOT TO SPOIL ANYTHING OKAY)
um, so I guess I’m giving this 3.5 stars?
I prefer other John Green books but at least this one wasn’t a complete flop...more

An incredibly powerful collection told through letters from Oscar while in prison in the late 1800's for an unjust reason, and his story of going through an awful lot in his personal life. I am such a huge fan of Oscar’s TPoDG and wanted to know more about his life which this showed perfectly. It was a bit boring at times but remember you are reading letters, not an actual story so not everything will be a tale. 3.5 stars....more

Overall I’d say this was a good continuation to the series, this one focuses a lot - like A LOT more on politics than actual action like the first book did. However it also focused on character development for both Vin and Elend, the two main characters which Sanderson managed to do fairly well.
Sazed is my favourite character in this series. Continuing on from the first book he just has a heart of gold and most importantly, he loves telling stories and tales! His relationship with Tindwyl, who I loved as a character was also so well developed and beautiful till the very end.
My main grudge with this book is that it really didn’t need to be this long. The first 200 pages or so were just.. talking? And the middle of the book was again talking, but with a little more action and then finally, the ending is FULL of action! Less of that beginning would’ve been better! A lot of it really wasn’t needed!
Another grudge I have is that so much of this was Vin moaning and complaining about her feelings from her relationship with Elend and there was just too much of that in my opinion. She kept and kept on switching between ‘he loves me’.. ‘he loves me not’... and at times it just got irritating. Stop that Vin, he adores you!
I cried twice during this book, Sazed finding Tindwyl’s body (WHY ARE YOU MESSING WITH MY HEART SANDERSON) and when Elend gets attacked at the Well of Ascension. Soooo many feelings!
Just read this series if you haven’t already....more
