I'm so glad I picked this one up from Nicole at a signing event. Super well-written and sexy spicy. Loved the characters. Packed a lot of story into a fast-paced package without the feel of rushing through. Left me nervous once I was running low on pages and fearful I wouldn't have a happy ending, but alas she came through in a way I didn't expect. Keep a fan nearby, you'll need it. One of my new favorite, must-read authors....more

I may have been closer to the character because I take care of my MIL who has Alzheimer's with dementia, but I felt the depictions of the disease and the character's struggle to solve the murder throughout the book were true to the feel of true crime, even if fictitious, I've come to love as a Crime Junkie and Audio Chuck listener. I couldn't put it down....more

Stephen King did it first, Kiersten Modglin did it better!
If you think you're opening the pages to an author's worst nightmare, you're right, but prepStephen King did it first, Kiersten Modglin did it better!
If you think you're opening the pages to an author's worst nightmare, you're right, but prepare yourself for an emotional, thrilling roller coaster with twists and turns you never saw coming that leaves your heart pounding until the unpredictable end.
As an author, this story made me want to clutch my life close to my heart. Kiersten always has a way of diving into what we fear or think of when trying to fall asleep, and I applaud her for having the courage to not only face those fears, but bring them to visceral life. One has to wonder if she's this brave, does this mean each book is her way of slaying her own dragons? :)

But the thirty-year-old kidnapping of her little brother hovers like a constant shadow cast by watchful black birds with yellow eyes: The Brotherhood of the Raven.
When a pair of boys vanish from the town she tried to forget, Daphne knows history is repeating itself. The Brotherhood needs young blood for their ritual sacrifice, the source of their supernatural power and wealth, a way to hold open the supernatural door to the underworld.
Unwilling to let another family fall prey to The Brotherhood, Daphne pours herself into following clues to find the brothers before the Brotherhood finds her. Little does she know they’ve marked her and have their sights set on what she holds dearest.
Girl Among Crows is a hard-boiled mystery and Daphne evokes the amateur sleuth in those of us who loved our childhood detective novels. Picking up where her literary heroes left off, now she’s in a race against time as she uncovers sinister secrets about her own family.
Bendon Vayo’s voice is unique and refreshing. Fans of John Hart will love his intelligent, realistic depictions of scenery, personalities, and the things inside all of us we wish weren’t true. - Lynessa Layne, author of The Don’t Close Your Eyes Series ...more

I usually predict them early on in books and movies, then find myself bored. Kiersten keeps me guessing so effortlessly, she's one of few authors who allows me to fall in love with reading the same way I fell in love when I stumbled upon Mary Higgins Clark and Agatha Christie but she's not afraid to season her stories with realistic bits of romance or deviance.
This book's twists were excellent. I'm on to book 2 to continue this dark, twisted, delicious predicament Ainsley finds herself in. I'm curious what lengths she will go to as a mother, wife, and an individual with a conscience. I love Kiersten's built-in moral dilemma for her characters and readers. She'll have you questioning what would you do and are you really as good a person as you thought? ;)...more
