As all of you who come to my blog know, I’m more a paranormal type of girl. However I found the story to be highly engrossing. We have a whole mystery to discover who Ann Leigh or Ana Lisa really is.
Ann Leigh has quite a few flaws. She’s spoiled, impulsive, and a bit brash, but I still liked her. She wasn’t going to let herself be sidetracked by the honeyed words of her boyfriend Tommy, especially when she suspected something was wrong. Tommy himself had me on ups and downs. I was torn between thinking her really loved her and that he was playing her in some way.
This book kept me reading into a couple late nights just so I can find out what truly happened. This one had me guessing until the end. If you like a cozy mystery and a story about self-realization, then you should really pick up this book....more

First, I think it’s fair to warn you that this book isn’t for the faint of heart. This book contains scenarios that are dark and twisted. However, they happen in real life, and I say it makes this story more real. It’s dark and twisted, just the way I like it.
So, I have to say that I think I liked this book more than I like the first Forever Girl. Once again, Rebecca Hamilton has invited us into her vast world to play with her wonderful supernatural creatures. This time we get to learn more about the Ankou. Hamilton has taken the old myths and breathed new life into them. What’s even better is we get to experience time travel in a very interesting way.
The main character Rose/Cordovae is a mess. She has gone through so much even before the story starts and it only gets worse. Yet she never gives up chasing after what she wants most in life even when she finds things she wants in her current time, she is willing to give them up just to get back to her child. I of course love Tess with her sass. We even get to see some character from the first book. (Yay Adrian!)
This is a pretty action, packed story with some heart pounding moments and the end is a jaw dropper. I’m not going to spoiler it for you. Go buy this book. ...more

I was really able to connect with Lou. I too have struggled to find my place in the world. And that's what this book is about. You get to journey with Lou as she finds herself and comes to terms with her religion.Of course I would be remiss to mention, but this is a book with a Wiccan main character. We need more of these!
I loved learning more about the Scottish witch hunts. I have always had an interest in the witch hunts, but never explored what happened in Scotland at the time.
Speaking of Scotland, McConnel painted a vivid picture of the Highlands. It made me want to visit!
You should definitely pick this book up. It has a bit of everything: history, paranormal, even a bit of romance....more

While Lichgates had the wonder and discovery of a new world, Treason takes you deeper into the machinations of the Yakona kingdoms. It has a much darker feel, which I love.
You pick up with Kara and Braeden as Kara continues to try to unite the kingdoms and bring peace to Ourea. Unfortunately, everyone else has other plans and most involve using her.
Kara and Braeden's relationship really develops in this and what would The Grimoire Trilogy be without Kara's wit? I think the readers are the ones who truly appreciate it. The other characters certainly don't.
This story is filled with twists and surprises throughout the story. I have several "whoa" moments. However, the part of the story I liked best was the way Boyce used The Hero's Journey element for Kara. I always love this particular story element and Boyce did a good job.
The only real issue I had was that it started a little slow.I usually prefer my stories to be fast pace, but once we got to the Gala it really picked up and I found I couldn't put it down.
If you like fantastical stories with intrigue and interesting creatures, get this book....more

She becomes the master of the Grimoire, a book that will answer any question she asks of it. Now, as the Vagabond, Kara must unite Ourea while everyone in it seeks to use her to their own ends or kill her if they can't.
The Good:
Worldbuilding: First let me say that as a child I always daydreamed of traveling to another world and having adventures there. Not only does this book do that but it does it well, so it holds a special place in my heart. Not only that but Boyce twists the old myths of muses and demons into new races. Ourea is a beautiful vibrant world I enjoyed exploring throughout the story.
Characters: I grew to love both Kara and Braeden as the story progressed. Kara is strong of heart despite her past scars. I loved her intelligence and snark, even though that got her in trouble a lot. Braeden has scars of his own that he tries to overcome. He hides it well with his charm though. He had some of the best lines in the book. Even the villains were well rounded. They were not evil just because. Each had their own goals and reasons.
Story: Wow. Adventure, intrigue, and a little bit of romance. This story has it all and it is just beginning. This trilogy has the beginnings of an epic.
Pacing: It started a little slow, but soon picked up. By the last 100 pages I could not put the book down.
The Bad: The first few chapters dragged a little for me but not enough for me to stop reading. They soon gained momentum.
Overall: Get this book. This is the Neverending Story for a new generation....more

Not only that, but she also has a constant static in her head that drives her to distraction. To try and stop this static Sophia does a ritual. However, all it does is release the skeletons in the family closet and introduce her to the supernatural world hidden beneath the mortal one.
The Good: Wicca: A book with Wiccans. There need to be more of these!
Style: Rebecca seamlessly combines Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance with Literary elements into a new genre called Paranormal Fantasy. Well, at least I felt there were Lit qualities, but I don't read a whole lot of Literary Fiction.
Worldbuilding: Rebecca is brilliantly twisted the myths of already existing creatures and created her own critters that have me intrigued. I love the use the five elements in relation to creatures. Her world pulled me in to the point I regretted having to leave when the book ended.
Characters: I loved Sophia. She was intelligent and strong willed. Even though she had a lot to be afraid of, she didn't give in to her fear. Also she had this humorous voice that wasn't over the top. Lately, in a lot Urban Fantasy books I am seeing a trend with a overly snarky first person voice. Sophia did not have this. She was funny but it didn't saturate the story. Also, I was drawn into Sophia and her emotions. The supporting characters are well rounded and multidimensional. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses.
The Bad: I only have one small nitpick. There are points in the story I felt could have been elaborated, but for the pacing and length's sake, I can understand why they weren't.
Overall: I loved this book. For a while I have been struggling to find books in Urban Fantasy that have kept me interested. I have stopped reading several novels from the major publishing houses because I felt they were bland and overdone. The Forever Girl kept me hooked until the very end. ...more
