Another classic that I happily read this season, and what a surprise it was. All my life I knew of Frankenstein as the commercialised version used in horror movies, as a monster that has no intelligence and is driven only by a desire to kill, and I did not have any deeper knowledge about him or even felt the urge to do so. But reading this book has enlightened me, and brought me face to face with a literary master piece, that delves into the inner workings of the struggle for acceptance from a lost soul that has been brougt to this world by the hands of another, that, despite being his maker, was the first to shun him, the first to judge his own creation as a failure.
Frankenstein is the heedless force of science that is driven by the need to know and experiment, with no concern over the ethics of what is right or the boundaries of exploration that humanity should not try to cross.

Another classic that I've never considered reading since I saw it, but the good thing this time is I can't really recall which one was that, mixing a couple of movies and series in my head, so I when I started reading, I was really on edge trying to figure out which story was it, and that felt like reading a new book altogether.
It was more of psychological horror than a haunted house kind of story, Ella was a fragile person that has been through a tough lonely life, so her attachment issues were evident in her quick gluing to Elisabeth, and that subsequently made her a self willing victim of the house, once she felt wanted, she could never find it in her self to leave...
Not spooky, but definitely painful in the sense of misery that can lead someone to forego his life in search of false happinness.

The first 50 pages were hard to grasp and I couldn't keep track of the events or characters, then when Sears started telling his story it smoothed out in the sense of understanding the character map of the story. Yet, I spent the first half of the book piecing together what the story itself is about, it seemed to be a narrative that has gone wild without a purpose or a destination, it was a bore to read and there was no horror factors to the story. Starting part III the horror element kicks in, and if you disregard the long buildup to reach this point, you can find the rest of the story much entertaining and it would all turn out to be an ok story. I would compare this with Swan Song and The Stand, novels that involve a relatively high character rooster and events that go in many parallel lines that eventually intersect. But in this one the ride was not as smooth, bordering on boredom at some points
And this concludes my October Spooky reads, happy Halloween!

Why am i giving it 2 stars? beause unlike the other books of the alphabet series, this one was all clear for me from the get go, and every twist was expected, up to the last page. And speaking of the ending, although the story itself is concluded with a clear enough solution to the case, it was quite different from the usual wrap up, with an epilogue and the signature submission of Kindey's report, I actually though thaat there is something wrong with the book and the final chapter was missing!

As I expected after finishing the third book, there was no more to the story to be told, and if the series stopped there it would've been OK. ActuallyAs I expected after finishing the third book, there was no more to the story to be told, and if the series stopped there it would've been OK. Actually, I was half epecting the final epsiode to tell the story of Clark's parents, where have they been hiding, and how did they get access to radio equipment, and what was their purpose in using it, since they already have met and parted with the existing earthborn colony? this is an area that needed some more light and was left unanswered and can fill an entire book on its own that can be placed as book 2.5. As for this book, it can be considered as a seperate book from the original story line. For me this is book 3.1 not book 4...

For this series, after the reading the third book, it feels like a single novel, with the second and third books bringing the remainder of the original story from book one, this could have been a long novel published in a single volume. The third book closes without a cliff hanger unlike book two, so I will see what the fourth book brings, will it be a milking of the story to add another volume, or there would be a side to the story that can be cultiated into another episode..

Overall, still an entertaining read..

Should be a 3 stars, but I'm taking away one star for the many details about foresting and wood work in the book, it was too much for me
