The final installment in the Endgame trilogy was just as action packed and non-stop as the first two books, but felt a little more unhinged than the first two. That's where my main issue comes in, the logic behind it all was nearly impossible to keep track of in the end. Everything happens so fast that you don't usually have time to think about it but now that it's all over, I'm thinking, and I'm just like "huh??" And while dying is pretty much a norm in this series, there were some main characters, three books in, whose deaths felt almost purely for shock value, and that reaalllyyyy bothered me. A lot. Even so, this was an exciting globe-trotting adventure, and I never have, and probably never will read, more realistic and intense action.
Honestly my five star rating is just because of how much I was affected by this book, and because I'm rating it from such an emotional place. It might lower later on....more

I'm not really sure what I expected going into this book, but I didn't see the plot and progression of book 3 going the way it did. The ending felt sort of "whoa I didn't know this what THAT kind of fantasy world." That's not to say it's bad or I didn't enjoy it, it's just that Lu could have wrapped up this series in so many different ways. I guess, looking back, this ending makes the most sense. But this easily could have been extended into a 4 or 5 book series, which I think I would have enjoyed more and would have helped with the pacing. As for the specifics, I think these books were set in such an interesting world, and getting to explore that world some more in this finale was fun. And Adelina, dang that girl had character arcs. It was really fun to read from the perspective of the "villain." I'm for sure on board for whatever Marie Lu decides to write for the rest of her career. ...more

I'm still deciding if I should do a review on my channel but for now I just need to get my thoughts out.
This book was beautiful and painful and everything in-between. And this wasn't just a book, no, reading it felt like a was marathoning an entire season of an amazing show on Netflix. It wasn't one confined story, but a series of stories that strung together the overall plot in a way we didn't see until the end. I just kept thinking, "holy crap I have no idea how Kaz comes up with this" which I then edited to "holy crap I have no idea how Leigh comes up with this!!!" The amount of effort that must have gone into this book is beyond my comprehension.
Aside from the pacing and a strong choice made at the end of the book that I'm not sure I agree with, I loved everything about this masterfully written epic tale, and I have a theory that it might not be the last we see of one or two of these characters. And, Lord, I hope I'm right....more

I can't remember the last time I gasped out loud so many times while reading a book. Honestly though.
The story was action packed and engaging right from the start and somehow managed to keep up the pace throughout the entire book. Cluess built such an interesting world, I was blown away by it all. I have so many unanswered questions and SO much excitement for the rest of this series.

While it took quite some time to understand the world (there is a categorized order to how violence and crime creates the monsters?), once we were passed that, I fell right into the plot. The stakes continued to rise as the story got closer to the end, and it concluded in a place for a fantastic sequel/conclusion to the duology. Both Kate and August were such complex characters, and the fact that they could either end up as heroes or villains is a really entertaining spin on things. Overall, while I wish there was less logic and more chaos to the types of monsters and how they're created, this was another highly entertaining and original book from the ever-magical Victoria Schwab....more

I'm usually a speed reader, I like to skim the filler parts and read what really matters in the book. I wasn't like that for this book. If I even caught myself starting to read too fast I'd immediately stop and go back and read it all over again. I needed to read every. single. word. There is something about the way that Maggie writes that is just magical. Each and every word, even the mundane ones, seem to have more meaning when she writes them.
Being back in this world was everything I wanted it to be. The characters were just as real as I remembered them and it felt like I was in Henrietta with them throughout their journey. When things got dark, and boy did they get dark, I was genuinely afraid. When something happy occurred, I was feeling that sentiment along with the characters (yes, there was both happiness and sadness and every other emotion between and beyond those two poles). These weren't just words on paper. The story of The Raven Cycle is so much more than that.
The Raven Cycle has always been a low burner, and so I was wondering how things would finally conclude, and whether or not it would truly feel finished. On some levels, it's absolutely does. The Raven King was everything the previous books promised it would be. I felt like I finally understood everything, and at the same time there was so much left to understand. The plots end in ways you'd never see or suspect and, in other hands, would not have worked they way they do here. On other levels, it feel like Maggie left some question marks on the pages, and I can only hope she plans on some day coming back to them.
As with every book, I had minor issues, but here they were so inconsequential that I can't even remember them right now. And I'm sure if I read it back I would see that it was just misinterpretation on my part.
I already want to go back and read the whole series again, because I feel like there's still so much more to discover, so much depth below the surface that I missed on the first go.
I'm considering doing a review on my channel for this, but it would just be me raving and full of emotions and I don't think it would do this book justice.

I was expecting a retelling going into this and was pleasantly surprised by something much different and darker than that. The main character Dinah is complex and caring, and yet somewhat villainous at times. Though not much happens in the first half of the book, the writing and world still make it an interesting read. But that end was non-stop intensity! And I always a good mystery/conspiracy theory in my books, especially one that I can't for the life of me predict how it will turn out. I definitely recommend this one and I'm totally on board to see where this goes....more

What a weird book. What a weird, emotional book. This is a case where I genuinely didn't know how to feel or what I was going to rate it until I got to the end and started tearing up a bit. There were a few passages that stopped me in my tracks and really made me think. And it's a very quick, short read. I couldn't put the book down even if I tried. I just finished this a second ago and I really don't know how to rate it! My thoughts are all over the place.
It was a book that made me think. The entire thing was one big what if? There were so many lines that really hit the nail on the head about dealing with loss and grieving, and learning to move on. Powerful stuff.
But at the same time, all these powerful thing were said but I feel like I didn't get to see them happen. There was very little plot movement in this book and I absolutely 100% understand why that was so, but by the end it still felt so stagnant and incomplete. Not just with the main storyline but with secondary storylines as well. I wanted some semblance of an idea about how things would go from there, but didn't feel that I got that.
Still, I genuinely read this book in one sitting. I couldn't stop reading, the idea was just so fascinating. I really fell into Travis' world....more

It was so easy to sink back into the brilliant world Schwab created, and boy did it feel good to be back in Red London.
While I thought I'd find the tournament the most interesting part of this book, it was the bigger picture moves that had me on edge. That cliffhanger, not what I expected but also so amazing and terrifying at the same time!

First, I'm really digging unique storytelling methods this year, and this one definitely fell in that category. It was such a unique way to reveal two timelines at once!
And the characters. Gideon really doesn't have the qualities of a character I'd like, but, damn! I literally loved (sort of) all the characters. They were all so different. They all had their own unique stories. They all stepped up.
And the plot. Literally so mind-blowing. S**t got wayyyy crazier than I was expecting, but this is a book about the apocalypse, so I was clearly dumb for expecting less. So much action. So much tension. So much "oh shit, did that really just happen?!"
I have a feeling this is going to be one of my top books of the whole year. ...more
