I still feel like if I was Liz and got reunited with Georgie again after she got dicked down while I starved, froze, and shit into a bucket with a dozen other freezing starving women, it would have been on sight.
Speaking of. Everyone who says Liz is a bitch can eat it because she is so valid for that. I would be SO BITCHY in this situation and I respect the hell out of her for being like HEY. FUCK YOU. Every time this alien guy is like "no, you have to stay in here and be barefoot and pregnant." My bitch knows how to make weapons, hunt, properly butcher her kills, cook, and take care of herself. Rash is like hmm idk about this but she demands respect and by God does she get it from both of us. She made this book readable for me and it was great and also hot.
It gets 3.5 stars because the ending was REALLY abrupt (hello, I wanted to see more of my hunter bitch!!!) and an extra .5 star subtract because I hate that every single mating has to result in buns in ovens or else. Stupid hot alien sex, sure. Immediate pregnancy? You've lost me there. I still might check out the other books in the series, but I mostly just wanted to read about Liz. Sorry haters but she's it for me....more

For almost a decade, a winning concept. But once they're thrown back into the political machinations of the Colonial Union, their story takes off like a rocket and comes to an incredibly satisfying conclusion in the end. To me it's probably the weakest of the 3 books, but it's still a strong 4.5 stars. I think reading Zoe's side of things in the next book will fill in the gaps I disliked leaping so far over. And I'm always happy to read more of this family. ...more

I gave this fewer than 5 stars the first time I read it, but I definitely enjoyed it more the second time around. This time we're exploring the seat of House Roake, Kira's father's home where she was stolen from as a child, and the new Overlord, her uncle Harlow. Kira and her human compatriots Raider and Blue are with her to compete in the adva ka to cement themselves as part of the warrior class, and in Kira's case, gain access to freedoms currently unavailable to her as an untrained child in the House's eyes. New friends and new foes are around every corner, and it's up to her to regain her old skills and talent for ingenuity in the face of crisis to combat the unexpected that comes to stab (or save) her from the shadows. I'm very interested in what we've learned about the lu-ong in this book, sapient serpent-like creatures living in the protected waters of the planet and with a mysterious connection to Kira and her bloodline, as well as the secrets about Jin & Kira's bond that were let out of the bag during the Tsavitee attacks. We also FINALLY get to see their hidden allies in the flesh with surprise appearances from Odin and Elena. This series certainly has a way with cliffhangers that makes the books feel seamlessly integrated from one into the next. I count myself very lucky that I can read them all through without having to wait months and years for the next installment in this gripping sci-fi series. ...more

I think it was because it took a hot minute to actually figure out what was going on due to Murderbot being an extremely unreliable narrator for the first entire third of the book, and trying to figure out what the hell happened and how the plot is staggering forward without its help was a little confusing. Once that got explained things picked up significantly, and maybe it was just me being a little slow on the uptake, but I enjoyed the second two thirds of the book a lot more with the additional context. I did enjoy getting to see the other side of the coin from what Dr. Mensah went through between kidnapping and assassination attempts (and then avoided getting trauma treatment for) to Murderbot finding the single most terrifying alien remnant almost-killed-my-bestie-and-also-me corrupted network (and then avoided getting trauma treatment for) ("I learned it from watching you!") It was an interesting exploration and resulted in some honestly hilarious workarounds as my sad little fluffy haired wet blanket had to improvise, being off its game, including moments like face-tackling a HostileSecUnit and spontaneously creating a mockumentary in 4 hours. While it isn't my favorite of the series, it was still a fun ride. ...more
Thanks to the folks who recommended this to me after I finished The Murderbot Diaries! Twisty turny time-hopping sci-fi can be a little harder for me Thanks to the folks who recommended this to me after I finished The Murderbot Diaries! Twisty turny time-hopping sci-fi can be a little harder for me to sink into, but once the puzzle pieces start snapping together, it gripped me fast and didn't let go. The overall mood is significantly more somber and dystopian than TMD's buzzy adventure vibe, but it found a similar strength navigating and questioning the inherent humanity of an android, this one trapped in a single functioning 'corpse' rather than a cyborg-like construct. I'm looking forward to seeing where this ongoing conflict leads....more
