Things I did not remember: there are virtually no men in this book (even Gilbert, who is in fact dreamier than I remembered, has only, like, five lines) and the non-Gilbert ones who are there are mostly only there as placeholders to be pretty or provide comic relief or act as catalysts for the ladies' self-determination; whereas the cast of lady characters is big, complex, and glorious. Here for it.
It's funny and a total delight to re-read. Going to reread them all and also rewatch the wonderful CBC miniseries because Colleen Dewhurst will always be Marilla to me. ...more

The sense of a Great Mystery that pervades the second half of the book is something that I adored as a child and that still resonates. I liked the slow pace and the abstractions and the overt mysticism, and I read this one over and over. It's probably been 25 years, and that feeling was what I retained...and I just wish I could have experienced just that part and not had to deal with the blatant racism part. (As a rereader, especially when I was young, my MO was usually to grab a well loved book and open to a random page and read from there; I know that I read the second half of The Last Battle dozens of times more than the first half.)
Patrick Stewart is obviously the most perfect of perfect readers for the audio version. I couldn't love him more.

I've been listening to it on audio while going to sleep, and parts still land differently or make me think on each listen. There's something about Meg's struggle to see/Name Mr Jenkins that really hits.
It's hard to imagine Wrinkle ever getting bumped from my #1 spot but every time I come back to Wind it feels like love and also like returning to center. I don't know if anything shaped my core sense of the sacred or the humanist divine more powerfully than this series....more
