This is the book where we finally find out where Moon came from and the how and why of the never. How I have been waiting >_o
The book opens as Moon is starting to settle into his role as a consort and with the customs of the Raksura. He is still a bit concerned about him and Jade not being able to concieve a child yet. But otherwise things are good, the raksura court is thriving and the Fell are keeping away.
Then some visitors from another court arrives with a message that Moons birthcourt has been found and they want him back.
Moon isnt too happy about this since he feels that they abandoned him as a child and anyways hes happy enough where he is.
But in the end he is made to go there so as not to start trouble But he cant help but feel anxious about the way things are progressing, since the visitor also brought along a new young consort,as a replacement for Moon it would appear.
Even if Jade assures him she loves him and will get him back no matter what...he cant help but have this uneasy feeling that once again he is not wanted.
He arrives at Opal Night and finds out he has relatives and try to fit in until Jade can arrive and bring him home again.
But Opal Night as the court is called is harboring a dark secret...and the Fell are never too far away.
Last book I complained about Moon being so unrelying and unsure about Jades and the other Raksuras affection and support.
But I think I am starting to understand why he feels this way. After being rejected by so many people, trust is not something that comes easy for him.Even if he can turn into a winged being with claws you would just like to give him a hug sometimes.
Its saying something to the credit of the writer that she makes us believe in Moon being able to have these traditionally female traits and still be able to kick ass. Much to the astonishement of other Raksura. Male Raksuras are supposed to be shy and demure...and Moon is anything but.
And we also learn more about the Raksura and what makes them tick.
I feel that just because the Raksura arent human,I can accept some of their customs and how they feel. Even if some of their ways are a bit eyebrow raising.(view spoiler)[Some of them have a very liberal view on sex.Moon has an offer of sex from another consort.Dont worry he declines it.He doesnt even freak out...because obvioiusly...yeah they are a really "social" species (hide spoiler)]
The author brings attention to our prejudice with Moon having a conversation with Chime and some other Raksuras about a groundling mating costume. They all find it very weird.
Apperantly these groundlings have to go through a ceremony before they can get pregnant...and if they have sex before this ceremony no one else will agree to be their mate.
*hint* its old fashioned marriage.
Something that I didnt like though was the Fell reappearing again, dont get me wrong though they are good villains and truly horrifying, but I would have wanted more interaction between Moon and his relatives. I felt that having go off to fight against the Fell was a bit too similar to the last book (even if the Fells motives this time was completely different)
I hope there is a fourth book.I want to find out if Jade and Moon has babies......more
Im still fascinated by the world setting and the raksura.
I just felt the plot meandered a bit at times.Henche the two star rating.
And then the relatioIm still fascinated by the world setting and the raksura.
I just felt the plot meandered a bit at times.Henche the two star rating.
And then the relationship between Jade and Moon...well Jade scolded Moon...and they had some sex.And that was it.
Sure they had scenes when they were loving and caring too,but I detected a pattern. Moon would do something "non-raksuran",Jade would dissapprove.Moon would feel unsure about her feelings and they would make up again. I think this happened at least three times in the book. It got old really fast.
And what happened with the fell? I mean they were defeated in the last book. But it was as they vanished from face of the earth.
Also I really want to know what court Moon came from...Like right now :0

Got my copy of On the edge this tuesday(The wait had been agony) I ripped open the package and set to reading.
It was somewhat different from what I expected but still a good read. The first chapter really sucked me in and wanted me to continue on. I really felt the hardships of Rose and felt like I could identify with her more than Kate.Probably cause neither Rose nor I carry around a big sword wherever we go.Shes just a normal (albeit magically talented) wary young woman.
And then the kids...they were so cute! Often in romance books children are either cotton candy sweet or just simply there not adding to the plot WHATSOEVER.Not in this case however as I truly enjoyed reading both Jack and Georgies POV parts.
Declan was scrumptious and I was totally surprised with the twist to him.Really didnt see that coming. Not gonna spoil it though^^
Ive seen some reviews say he was too perfect but I disagree,in the beginning he was a bit too arrogant and secretive to be "perfect". I loved the Sesshomaru reference when the kids first see him ;) He wasnt just some white knight in shining armor coming to the rescue. In fact some of the things he did caused trouble for Rose in the Edge. I also liked the way he and Rose interacted:She thinking he was a spoiled pompous guy and he thinking she was the rudest woman he ever met- Some of their dialogs made me grin. And the romance made me sigh.
The villain and his hounds were so evil and the way Ilona described them was beyond creepy. The scene with them swarming the room *shudder*
But I dont want to give away too much just gotta read it yourself...
I wish there was a second book about Rose though...I want her to have more adventures!
(Yes I know there is to be a second book in The edge series but NOT about Rose) ...more

Kate Archer is returning to her seaside hometown after her grandmother fails to return her calls and no one seems to know where she went. This would have anyone worried but the implications of her being missing are far more difficult since she is also the Guardian of Archers Beach.
Archers beach is a seaside resort but its also place where the mundane meet the magical and both sides manage to come together and live more or less harmoniously. But it does need its Guardian to take care of the land.
Kate investigates and learns her grandmother might have gone in search of something important that couldnt possibly exist anymore.
Waiting and hoping for her grandmother to return she agrees to take charge of the carousel her grandmother owns wich means more than just keeping up repairs and taking ticket fees. The carousel is in fact a magical prison for criminals who now inhabits the carousels wooden creatures.
It probably doesnt help matters that Kate is punishing herself for something that happened in the past by refusing to use her innate magic wich is slowly killing her and then when she ends up on the bad side of a shady buisnessman its not only the disappearance of her grandmother she has to sort out.
She finds herself fighting mundane criminals and magical villains who wouldnt hesitate to kill and hurt innocent people to see their goals fulfilled.
And then there is the mysterious Borgan who she might be able to put her trust in...
This was a wonderful book-a true gem. If you have ever found yourself standing by the sea or a lake looking out to the horizon and just felt the calm that is the atmosphere of this book. I cant describe it any other way. As opposed to an urban fantasy I guess this book can be categorized as rural fantasy.
It all just came alive to me,the setting and the characters felt real and not made out of some generic mold just something very special.
If you were expecting a tough heroine who can kickdrop a guy you will probably end up disappointed in this book because altough Kate is quite a capable person she prefers to figure out things instead of going all action-y as her first response.
Mind you she is no pushover and she has some trust issues but you are never annoyed at her hoping she would just snap out it instead feeling you can understand why she is the way she is.
Likewise if you are looking for a fullblown romance-... this isnt your book.but Kate does build a meaningful connection with someone that in future books could come to be realized.
I loved those scenes with that person :) They were so beautiful.
The pace of the book was very slow paced, not in a bad way but instead of having it all thrown at you all at once it slowly unfolds and brings the reader along for the ride. Thats not to say it doesnt have fastpaced and exciting bits in there too though but i I felt that contrasting the calmer scenes with those dramatic ones were a good move of the author.
There are a lot of complex things going on in this book but somehow it all came together in the end.
And just as big part of the plot is Kate finally coming to terms with painful memories from her past and becoming a stronger person for it.
This was one of my favorite books of 2011 and I was very happy to learn there would be a sequel to it (wich I hope to Review soon.) ...more
**spoiler alert** How to make justice to a book that blew you away when you first read it?
Ariel is accompanying her mistress-Edouin up on the mountain**spoiler alert** How to make justice to a book that blew you away when you first read it?
Ariel is accompanying her mistress-Edouin up on the mountain to gather some flowers. Then suddenly Edouin is snatched and abducted by a winged creature.
Horrified she runs to tell everyone that Edouin has been kidnapped.
But no one believes her Except for a strange blind old woman who tells her the creature she saw was a vampyre and that he kidnapped Edouin to become his "wife" wich essentially means to steal her soul
Ariel decides if no one will try to save Edouin its up to her to do it.Even if she is a lowly slave girl.
So she goes up the mountain and waits for the vampyre to come back.
He does and takes her back to his castle to be handmaiden to his "wives" other young women he has taken.
They are little more than wraiths though after he has stolen their souls so Aeriel cant tell wich one of them is Eoduin.
To keep the vampyre complacent she begins to tell him tales and she also cares for his beasts, hideous creatures wich are kept starved to better guard his castle.
But she discovers the time is approaching when he needs to steal his final bride and take his wives souls to his mother. And then not only his wives will be lost...the last of the vampyres humanity will be destroyed too.
Aeriel doesnt know what she can do.Only that she has to do something
When I first found this book I was take away by the story. It didnt hurt either that the cover was done by the amazingKinuko Y. Craft

The author somehow manages to blend the story of Bluebeard,Beauty and the beast(altough the vampyre is beautiful,he is still a monster)and the storytelling of Szcherezade into one story.
And its a coming of age tale too.
At times its quite a surreal read, and I think the best comparision I could make is call its a surreal fairytale.
But I think the sheer originality of the story and the world its set in elevates the book from more more straightly written books.
Her "vampyre" is quite different from the norm too they have wings like angels
“They were jet, those wings, as deep as the sky, as black as Eoduin's hair—no, blacker, for they were dull, unoiled. They gave off no sheen in the light, no gleam to the eye. They drank up the light and diminished it: they were wings of pure shadow”
Thats a good example of the poetic and evocative prose.
I am glad that I found this one. It has been a re-read for me since the age of 14.
