There is a lot of quotes in the book from other authors. The main message of the book is all about what choices you make in your life. You can choose to let life's problems get you down, or choose to overcome them and make a positive come from it.
The best part of the book for me was "A Father's Letter to his Son" on page 80.
I don't feel this book is worth paying twenty bucks for, sorry...my opinion only....more

That's when his world comes crashing down on him. He loses his wife, his daughter, and hits rock bottom.
Jack's father comes to rescue him in his darkest hour and takes him home. Somewhere that Jack never wanted to go back to. In the mist of going back home he finds a greater message from God. Jack was used to teaching everyone to be better or that they could always do better, but he never took his own advice.

He tries to make amends in his hometown, rediscovering old friendships and some new ones. He learns you can do good deeds without always having to get attention for it.

But, This is our Feb. 2014 Inspirational book group read. I really enjoyed this book. I gave it 4 stars cause it started out slowly in the beginning. But, when you got a few chapters in it really picked up. I loved the characters in the book and how they interacted.
The main character is Scarlett Jo and her pastor husband Jackson. They have five children. Scarlett Jo is one "character" till a secret she's been hiding starts to come out. Her husband is a loving person who holds Scarlett Jo together. He is her rock. They work well together in the community helping other people out in their times of need.
There is a few other couples in the book who go on the search for their heart and they have to decide on how to handle their life's problems. There is divorce, happy times, sad times, funny times, and times of knowing when to let go. And, it's about following your dreams and how to follow your heart.
How would you feel if you spent your life not doing what you loved to do and you felt like you died inside? I know a lot of people who go through life going through the motions of their dead end jobs. This book might help you take a look at your own life and maybe you will see you too are ready to make some changes. We only live once, so do what you love to do.
This book keeps you wanting to keep reading about the lives of the people in the book.
I must admit when I started reading this book I was thinking I wouldn't like it cause I don't usually like reading books similar to this. I find them boring. It's just that the ones I've read weren't really that interesting and went kind of nowhere. Not true about this one.
This is the first book I've read by this author and it won't be the last.
This book also reminds me of the "Rocking Chair" test. I don't know it exactly, but the jest of it is that one day you will be old and look back on your life while sitting in your rocking chair. Do you want to look back with regrets? Or do you want to follow your heart and do what you love? The choice is yours to make. Ask yourself, When I am sitting in my rocking chair when I am old, how will I look back on my life? With regrets, or knowing that I followed my dreams and did what I loved....more

I feel Marie and the Amish deserve five stars just for their forgiveness alone. But, not only have they forgiven, as has Marie, but have been touched by God in so many ways.
I know we are suppose to forgive, but losing all those children for the Amish they must have strength I don't have and wish I did. I have gone through stuff in my life and try to forgive and find strength, but nothing like they have gone through.
What a wonderful community to live in for Marie when she was going through this tragedy which she didn't create. It was at the hands of her husband. I loved how the Amish came to Marie's husband's funeral and made a wall around the gravesite to protect her family from the media.
I've read the Amish book about the shooting and it still amazes me the strength they have from God to forgive.
I really like what was written on page 295 about how God is not the source of any sin but he is the salvation of sin, and that he is with us in our sufferings and helps us heal with his presence. There is more to this and I hope it sounds right here, but there is so much truth in that.
The Amish and in this book as well as Marie has shown the public what it is truly like to be able to forgive. I think God has shown millions of people that forgiveness is what you have to do and pray about it when it's hard. I feel that millions of people were in awe of how the Amish came to the Roberts family and helped them through the tragedy. I do understand this was in no way the fault of Marie's family but that of the hands of her husband. But, for the Amish to step in and help the family when they had lost so many of their own children amazes me.
