This is the story of Cassie and Bryan. Where the previous book somewhat addressed the issue of becoming a werewolf for the first time, this book explored what can happen when a werewolf tries too hard to be human. We were introduced to Cassie briefly in the previous book, but now we really get to see the development of her character, a fish out of water in more ways than one, and how she repeatedly finds the strength to overcome her obstacles. I really liked her character. Even when she does things that may seem questionable to those around her, she does them for the right reasons. Bryan was not as interesting to me as some of the previous 'lead males,' but it's ok because he offers enough support and stubbornness to really let Cassie shine. I admit to some surprise at the ending, both with a certain female wolf and with what seems to be a teaser for the next book in the series. I am very much looking forward to more from Ms. Charles! ...more

I liked this book even more than the previous one! There was a lot of tension between the main characters and it was easy to see how much they were fighting the inevitable. However, like the previous book, I found the lead female to be a bit too naive. The whole premise for her tracking down Ryne was for some interview? Over time, it becomes clear why she specifically was chosen, but as a city girl, I was shocked that she wasn't the least suspicious of why she of all people was chosen for a job like this. Other than this one detail, there was a lot going on in the story that I really enjoyed. The descriptions of the small town where it was set, and the aspect of a new pack forming were very interesting. I also enjoyed the somewhat sinister old man that seemed to be orchestrating everything happening in Mel's life. A very enjoyable read!...more

I had actually read this one once before, and enjoyed it both times. It was a bit frustrating at times that the lead female was so naive, but she was young and had likely had a sheltered life.
The villain was very believable, and there was a bit of a twist at the end which really surprised me. The romance aspect was sweet and occasionally steamy. Kane was a lovely example of Alpha Male, but should listen to his mate more often. ...more

It's a little hard to figure out where to read which book in the series. Having previously read 'Bonded,' which is a prequel for the series and ended with a big question mark hanging over the side character of Damien, I decided to read this one next, even though technically I think it's supposed to come after the second book, 'The Keeping.' This turned out to be a wise choice, I think. There wasn't a bunch of spoilery-stuff regarding book one and two, mostly this one stands alone. While it does continue Damien's story, it's not just a book about him but a story about Eve and Rafe as well. Though Damien does figure prominently into the tale.
I enjoyed this book very much! It seemed to be more on the action side than the previous one, 'Bonded.' The characters were well-formed and engaging. There was also a lot of mystery and misdirection going on here that kept me guessing until the end. I'm greatly enjoying this series and hope that there will be more in future books about Damien, a rather complex individual. ...more

Now for the book, I had a little trouble with this one. I love werewolf books, and I enjoyed another book in this series a great deal. That being said, I was frustrated by this one. It had all the elements of a great story, strong characters, conflicts, a dastardly but unknown villain...but it just seemed too drawn out for me. It's just my personal preferences, but I like a bit more action to be going on and a bit less time speculating on past incidents and future possibilities. Overall, it was pretty good, but not my favourite. I will however be reading the rest of the series. I think there's great potential here. ...more

The more time I spend with these characters, the more I love them. As with other books in this series, there was pretty much non-stop action. We get to see a bit of the aftermath of the Fae-bomb dropped in the 'Alpha &Omega' book, Fair Game. I love how these two series are related and build on each other! In this book we also get a better look at things from Adam's perspective which I had been wondering about for some time. As always, I would like to see more Bran. I know he was intended to be more of a background player, but he is such an enigma that I'm dying to know more! Mercy was, as always, funny and smart and thoroughly a bad-ass, even when she kind of gets smooshed by the bad guys. My biggest complaint is that I now have to wait forever for the next book. I hope Ms. Briggs will have the next A&O book out soon to tide me over!...more

It was disturbingHonestly, I read these because my niece was so enamored of them. At times they were interesting, other times they were just painful. It was disturbing to me how scary co-dependent the characters are. However, as a jr high teacher, I see it everyday. To me it may seem ridiculous and pathetic to let your life revolve solely around one person, and yet for teens, this is very common. Would I read it again, no, but I do think that Ms. Meyers accurately captured the spirit of many teens....more
