I listened to the audiobook NOT MY FATHER'S SON: A Family Memoir written and read by Alan Cumming. Alan Cumming's father Alex was a man who held his family hostage, who meted out violence with a frightening ease. Alex was the dark, enigmatic heart of Cumming family life. But he was not the only mystery. Alan's maternal grandfather, Tommy Darling, had disappeared to the Far East after the Second World War. Curious to explore this mystery, Alan committed to filming an episode of the BBC's 'WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?'
Then out of the blue, his father called. He had a secret to share.
'What a shattering, compelling and extraordinary story Alan Cumming has to tell. And he does so with such style and grace' - Stephen Fry
'This is a beautiful book - sad, funny, haunting, surprising, suspenseful, gut-wrenching, endearing. It will linger inside of you long after you turn the final page' - Harlan Coben

Thank you, Sharon. You are very observant, as I have been away visiting family and friends in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Then shortly after I returned home, good friends whisked us away to Parrsboro, Nova Scotia for a wonderful little vacation. We stayed at Gillespie House, a lovely bed and breakfast and attended a wonderful show, Fiddles and Feet, at Ships Company Theatre and visited museums, and local attractions. We had a delightful time.

Thank you, Maureen. I enjoyed listening to this memoir even though it went back and forth from early days to present days and years in between.

I have put this audio book on hold at the library. Can't wait for it. I have seen Alan in so many English shows and he also played a terrific part in The Good Wife. He is a terrific actor.
Wonderful story! I especially loved his narration. I listened straight through last Spring on a 7 hour drive by myself from Portland, Oregon to Redding, California. It kept me riveted and the miles flew by.

So glad that you enjoyed it, Jenna. I find audiobooks fantastic for long drives when you are by yourself. I especially like ones narrated by the author. Any by Pat Conroy are great whether I am alone or with my husband.
