Read 2 times. Last read May 30, 2021 to June 7, 2021.
Second read: June 2021 - 4 stars
Even though it took me quite awhile to read this, I still enjoyed it probably as much as the first time through. I will say, however, that I was also coincidentally rewatching Season 5 of the show at the same time and boy was that confusing...I wouldn't recommend doing it!
I think my favourite part of this book is all the internal processing we see Naomi going through. Finally coming to terms with her choices, her image of herself as a mother, and her acceptance of what in reality she is truly responsible for (and also what she is not).
A nuanced and impressive volume in the series.
First read: May 2016 - 4 stars
This was yet another great entry into The Expanse series. This book provides some insight into the personal backgrounds of some of the long time characters as the usual action filled tale unfolds. The story continues to be full of excitement and I'm definitely looking forward to the next installment!

""What did you do?" Fred asked.
"There was a button," Holden said. "I pushed it."
"Jesus Christ. That really is how you go through life, isn't it?""

Is the show just called The expanse? I need a good sci-fi series to watch. I’ve been trying to get my husband to rewatch the Alien movies with me. I’m a codependent TV watcher. I never turn it on when I’m alone. Maybe because my mom strictly limited television time, and most of our TV/movie watching was done as a family? Even Saturday morning cartoons was something I enjoyed with my brother. I watch violent Japanese anime with my son. I watch Criminal Minds with my daughter. My husband & I just finished A Discovery of Witches and Shadow & Bone. I like having a show we watch together, and this sounds like a good candidate.
Oh it is so good Tandie. It was originally a SyFy channel show but it was picked up by Prime. There are 5 seasons out, and one final season to come.
I thought Shadow and Bone was excellent, especially the second half of the series. Other SF series I have really enjoyed are The Terror, The Handmaid's Tale, and The Man in the High Castle (that's alt history). I have a love/hate relationship with ST Discovery and Picard.

The "side books" are a terrific way to explore the characters in more depth, without affecting the pacing of the main series. Brilliant!
Thank you for the review.
