My first thought was, "I wonder what the Queen thought of this". She probably didn't read it, and if she did, I hope she thought it was funny because it was. In this story she becomes an avid reader after accidentally stumbling upon a mobile library outside the palace. I didn't count them, but Bennett mentions more book titles and authors names than any book I've read. The Queen, much to everyones dismay, spends all her time reading and begins to neglect her queenly duties. She takes on everything from Austen to Proust and her reactions to all this diversity is priceless. Just an all-around fun read.

Annamaria I never wondered wether the actual Queen read it or not. I don't think she did either but how surreal would it be?! :D

Tracey Loved this when I read it Duane :)

Cecily I like to think she did read it (even though she probably didn't). SO much is written about her, I expect she's generally blasé, but this is so different from anything else, she might have been tempted...
;)

Carolien I listened to the audio version narrated by the author himself and loved this. The premise is just so clever and I must say, it added a whole list of books to the TBR pile.

Carol I wondered the same thing. It is light and delightful. An easy read when you need something to bring a smile to your face.

I read it to myself, but I heard Alan Bennett in my head. I adore his voice.
