This book is balm. My second reading. It contains its own instructions for reading too. If some metaphor or anecdote seems too dense, just let it pass. There is no need to read the text as closely as I just have; that’s me. Suzuki-roshi explains it all. Toward the end it gets a little bit repetitious; that’s because these are in fact transcripts—elegantly edited—of talks given at Tassajarra Zen Mountain Monastery, Los Altos, California in 1969 or so. Really worthwhile if you seek big Mind.

Good to hear it was rewarding. I've been holding it and wondering after it after reading and enjoying a short nonpractical Zen book by Merton.
Yes, so do I. But you live out there, correct? Near his old stomping grounds? Suzuku must be something of a legend among Zen-centric residents there. What an astonishing book!!
Michael, I hope you will read it. It’s one of the great books of my life. I hope you get as much out of it as I do. (I expect to get even more out of it on my next reading.) Fascinating stuff.

What an astonishing book!!"There's a center here where I often rent meeting space and they have framed pages of his writing on their walls. He's part of the fabric.
I hope to see it and Tassajara one day.
I believe that most of the talks were not given at Tassajara, but rather at Haiku Zendo in Los Altos Hills.
