Disturbing on so many levels.

****Spoilers****

First I want to say that the authors has a lot of potential as a story teller if she would have cut the prologue sex, and rewrote everything that came after Becca got out of her car in the alley. I could have believed a restaurant owner getting involved with a dark and dangerous man. But the prologue set up gave the whole book a disjointed feeling. Why??? Because none of it was even remotely believable. I understand that authors are the masters of their stories but this story master was HOT SEX. If you love hot sex then this book is for you. Ms. Winters was on her way to developing good characters, then she went off the rails after the alley scene. Now let me tell you why I think so. Instead of giving her characters time to bond and get to know each other as Dom, Becca and Jax (Becca's three year old boy) are under one roof, she has Becca and Dom having sex, not just sex but anal sex, after she was nearly beaten to death by rival mobsters. The woman has a stab wound and fractured ribs, among other things. I have had 'bruised' and hairline fracture ribs, let me tell you SEX, even with a sexy mafia bookie would never have happened. Becca only has codeine for the pain, really!! Morphine and Demerol barely cut it, and I have a high tolerance for pain. Obviously the author has no concept of what she signed up her character for. After the beating, I expected the trio to get to really know each other and bond. Nope, Nada, Zip!! Becca safe words out when Dom offers to read the kid a bedtime story. I understand a woman's need to protect her kid, but really the author lost a great opportunity for character bonding beyond the great sex. Then Winters' goes and makes the bookie into a professor. The author obviously learnt about the mob from watching too much television and reading too many bad mafia books. You never leave the mob, even with the head dudes permission law enforcement doesn't care if you fall in love and turn over a new leaf, neither do your former competitors. My head exploded several times by Winters' trying to make her mobster a typical white bread hubby and father. Furthermore hot sex does not make a love story, and inserting a cop into the mix and the entire plot line dropping was a waste of a plot device that was never used.
Again this author has great potential if she slows down and let the story unfold around the hot sex. But this book wasn't for me, despite the inferno of Sex.
