I tried. I really did.
I took me a while to get into it... then it went back to being a boring history book throwing so many character names and places of battles in my face. A few more interesting parts that made me keep trying but I can't do this to myself anymore.
DNF halfway.

Same. I’ve been trying with this book for over half a year. I’m currently over the 60% mark and while it has some nice moments and I can appreciate the craftsmanship of the author, it just isn’t an enjoyable read to me. So yeah, I totally get DNF-ing.

I trust your opinions with my life, but I have to give it a try. It’s been on my TBR for sooo long, and I’m in the midst of a high fantasy spree 🤷🏽♂️
I knew by page 200 that I didn't like the book, but I am physically incapable of DNFing books, so I finished it. It doesn't get better.
I did like it but not enough to go onto the next in the series.
i saw someone describe this book as the textbook to prepare you for the following books where the story really starts and immediately removed it from my tbr
