I tried to start reading this book about 3 times and always gave up because the beginning is a bit confusing. But on a Saturday afternoon, I began to read this story seriously and I couldn't get stopped, and went until Sunday at 2:40 a.m.; that is, I read 346 pages in one sitting. The author writes very well and has full control of the art of writing, and the ending was very surprising to me. Of course, it helped the facts that I love Impressionism and I have read some basic books on this subject and on its main painters.
There are 3 intertwined stories: the story of an 11-year-old girl with a talent for painting, a teacher of 36 years married to a jealous man and she no longer loves this man; and the story of an 84-year-old woman who tells part of the story. The other part of the story is told in the third person. The book begins with the murder of a womanizer ophthalmologist who was stabbed in his heart, a stone broke his skull, and he was drowned in a pond near the residence of the late impressionist French painter Claude Monet in Giverny, France.
This book isn't a fast-paced action one, but the characters are very well built. I only didn't like the character of the 36-year-old woman who didn't love her husband any longer and expects a prince charming to save her from her failed marriage.

I've had the same thing happen to me before Janete. Put a book down that I thought I would not like only to come back and find that I loved it. Wonderful review!
