A Darkness At Sethanon (The Riftwar Saga, #4)

Not one strong female in the entire series. After reading the entire Wheel of Time series (where strong females grace every storyline) last year I wandered off to see more of the fantasy genre. Sadly I will not be reading anymore Feist. I loved the fast pace but hated the sexism. The main women in the storyline are always beautiful and never have anything helpful to say. They are always badgering the male characters.
Like another reviewer I don't believe it was done maliciously, it just seemed to never occur to the writer. A tragedy.

You actually make a good point, though I cannot speak for any books beyond this one. Sometimes I wonder if it had more to do with the time that it was written.

You're quite right about it being era related. Tolkien was guilty of almost ignoring women completely in his stories. I can't help but dream of how much better they would have been with the women's view of things from each race.
I heard his Daughter of the Empire series is better than the Riftwar saga and the main character is a female throughout the trilogy... Just an extra thought on his development as an author if you wanted to test out his later works

Thank you for the suggestion! I will add it to my to-read bookshelf. It's been 5 years since I wrote my original review and have found myself much more forgiving of authors and their difficulty writing female characters.
