I'm new to the series and started with this book (one of the perils of reading advance review copies) -- a bit out of order, but it has a cast of characters who are entertaining enough to make me want to go back to the first book and learn all the backstories. It's not required, though; this book stands on its own (although there's definitely an unresolved romance plot that probably slow-burns through at least a few books in will-they-or-won't-they style). If you enjoy reality TV competitions, you'll have fun seeing bits of that in the baking competition wound through this cozy mystery. All in all, it seems an entertaining series!
