Well, I made it friends. This made for one of the most odd reading experiences I've ever encountered. I was completely enamored with the story, as the world building and intricate detailing into the politics of the seven kingdoms is exquisite, yet every time I picked up this book it felt like a chore to read. This could be perhaps due to the fact that, after waiting 900 years to read these books I've already encountered most of the twists and spoilers, which takes away some of the anticipation. Either way, I respect what George R.R. Martin has created here, and despite my slow going, I'm interested in continuing on.

Mai 🙌🏽

Marcos Oliveira I am honestly not waiting for the next book anymore... I am not sure he will live long enough to write the last one, after winds of winter.

message 3: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie I still have to start it, too. I wanted to let the television series have some space and time to clear out of my head a bit. But it’s on my list, on my literal bookshelf, and you aren’t alone.

Ah that makes sense. Glad to know I'm not alone!

Andrew✌️ I abandoned this series after the second book, for the so many delays in its publication. Maybe an audiobook is what I need to restart the series. :)

Emily Rose Bethke Huff I blew through this series quickly I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Kimberly I just bought this book, too!

Jerry I have read all of the books in the series. If you watched the HBO series you will see the books start to differ in the second book. The books were much better than the series and by the end there was hardly any continuity between the two.

Jordana Books are so much better than the show!

Ah that's good to know. My husband watched the show but didn't read the books, now I'm reading the books and haven't see the show! I'm thinking it might be fun to compare the two once I've finished the books.

I'm about 30% in and so far so good!

Benjamin Thomas It can be a chore at 900+ pages. Read the first and working on the second. I haven’t watched the TV series yet! Told myself I read the books first. It helps if you can toggle between the book and audiobook. The narrator is exceptional.

Laurie • The Baking Bookworm I’ll be starting the second book soon. My 18 year old gave me the set so that will push me to read the series. It did help watching the tv series ahead of time. So many characters!!

Agreed! I'm very excited to continue on. I think now that the stage is set, the following books will be easier for me to sink into.

Emily Rose Bethke Huff They leave a lot out in the tv series. The first 3 books are almost the exact version of the show. As you progress in the books the plot and twists become even better!

TMR I hope I get to read it soon and enjoy it like you one day

Regina My husband has listened to the whole series a couple times already. He said it starts to change quite a bit. I'm sure once you get into the second one you'll be more intrigued to keep reading. I've read the first but haven't had a chance to get into the rest of the series yet. Hopefully after this next book I just started!
