****WARNING!!!! READ THIS REVIEW IF YOU HAVE READ THIS BOOK! Contains spoilers.****

Speechless. This book has made me speechless. I'm repeating myself because that's exactly how I feel. This book has pulled my heartstrings. I love Zach, Lexi and Grace. (Obviously!) At first I definitely had mixed feelings about Jude, like she was the mother who revolved her life around her kids, wanted the best for her children (which all parents want), but then I hated her for charging charges against Lexi. I hated how everyone thought of themselves that time. It was always about MIA and it was about her after she DIED, like for god sakes keeping her IMMORTAL in their thoughts when someone dies is one thing, but revolving it around your entire existence forgetting everyone around them. It is too much.

Poor Lexi. That poor girl was blamed for it when it wasn't her FAULT, I mean come on she was the only one who wasn't that drunk. My heart felt for Lexi when she had to give her baby away, she carried her baby for nine months only for her to be taken away and than again she was left with the pain and loss of losing everything. (Once again Mia takes the spotlight.)

Zach had it so hard I wished he fought a little harder though, I know after losing his sister it was very hard for him but he only tried to keep his mother happy when all she did was neglect him. (One would think that after you lose one child, you would keep the other in front of your eyes and shower them with lots of love. She didn't instead she wallowed in her own pain and didn't care for Miles pain; he lost his daughter too. Zach lost his sister too, but he is holding it together).

Lexi lost her best friend. SHE has to carry the burden of being the driver. That girl had enough grief in life and she was blamed for her death. Jude told her she KILLED her daughter. Ughh, I wanted to punch her in the face! Can't you see that poor girl heart broken.

Miles and Eve are the best. I loved them both, they were the pillars for Zach and Lexi.

There was many moments when I thought WHAT IF... Lexi didn't plead guilty would her sentence have been short? Would she have gone to prison? Maybe because of the way it went down? I had the moments where I hoped for a different outcome because it would have been easier on Lexi to move on. For her to perhaps have her own happy ending?

OVERALL

This story is STUPENDOUS, FANTASTIC AND AMAZING. It's really hard to find such emotional books that are written so well and beautifully. This book made me think of so many things. Such as... We are human and we will tend to make so many mistakes that it takes a lot to OWN up to them and learn from them.

My Verdict? 5 PLUS STARS (5 stars don't cover it and neither does 10 stars so infinity number of stars should cover it since it has no bounds) :)

Jacqueline Licona Completely agree!

Anne Locklin Great review. I cried during the second half of the book. I felt the pain that Lexi was going through and mad at Jude for the way she treated everyone especially grace who suffered the pain through no fault of her own. I was happy when Jude was the one to push zack and glad they were able to reconcile. Excellent book that made me feel I was right there. I love Kristen Hannah and can't wait to start her next book.

Thanks! I love Kristin Hannah too, I would strongly suggest to read Magic Hour, Angel Falls, Waiting for the Moon, Home front and lastly Winter Garden if you haven't. (In that order lol) I really loved Magic Hour my favorite of Kristin's books.

I agree with you I hated Jude, my friend who was reading it along with me she said she still hates Jude even when she pushed them back together when she was the one who brought them apart. In some ways I felt sorry for Jude but sometimes I think that she got away with what she done for so little and Miles was really sweet and understanding towards her. I guess he loved her so much that he could forgive her for what she done.

I loved Lexi and Zach. And little Grace. <3

Katie I had the same feelings

Izzy Stevenson-olds Completely agree I was gutted when the book ended.

Diane I totally agree but I think Scot was a VIP in the story. Without him it would have been much harder for Lexi, especially after she got out of jail. He was a hero!

Megan Watts AGREE

Jodie Greenlee I totally agree!!

Danyon Absolutely loved this book. I could sympathize with Jude, to an extent. I lost the love of my life, my children's father, when they were still babies. I shut down, I was more like Caroline in this sense. I forgot how to love and for that, my kids did suffer. I cried all the way thru the second half of this book, by the end I was a hot mess lol
I am making sure my 17 year old daughter and my 16 year old foster daughter read this book. They will both take so much away from this.
My daughter, raised without a father with a mother who made repeated mistakes. My foster daughter, who is with me because her mom is a parallel to Lexi's mom. Too many similarities, I have to make them read this. Hopefully it will help them understand some hard life lessons

Vikki Montgomery Completely agree with every point you made. I had a strong dislike for Jude in the second part of the book. I hated her disregard for everyone and how she wasn't there for her remaining child when he needed her most. I also resented how she was (or rather wasn't) with Grace.

Vikki Montgomery Didn't mean to post the previous post yet.

What I meant to say was that I was so glad that she finally saw herself before it was too late and was able to repair the cracks that had formed in her family. It must have been a huge thing for her to let Lexi in - even although I don't believe she should have treated her the way she did in the first place. But I am glad she came through and did what was right.

Pam I get how some people found it hard to like Jude in the second half of the book. However, unless you have lost a child it is difficult to empathize with her. Kristin Hannah has so sympathetically captured the inexplicable, and seemingly illogical, behaviour after a child's death.

Jessica Yes I absolutely agree! I just finished this book a few months ago and I couldn't put it down! It has a great example of real forgiveness and second chances

message 16: by Lori (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lori I've never cried so much over a book. You can't help but fall in love with Mia, Zack and Lexi.

Vicky Marcotte agree! This book touch emotion string so deeply that it left me reeling

Trisha ❊ Devoured Words :)!! It's a book I still remember after reading it ages ago. Maybe a re-read is in order. ;)

PaulAngela Edwards Thank you, Trish, for all your recommendations. Anyone else have suggestions? I just finished Night road and LOVED it! My heart raced, and fluttered, and broke along with the characters. Absolutely a perfect book.

Felicia Rose I absolutely loved the book, And couldn't put it down! I wish there was a sequel for us to see how Zach and Lexi lived there life with grace and how grace and Jude were able to mend there grandma/grandchild relationship.

Jessica Lezama a Is it a HEA?

Kristen Kitching I agree with the review. I give it 5 stars although I hated Jude through the entire book. Zach needed more definition. He just accepts everything and shouldn't he be upset his mom sent the love of his life to prison? and the ending.... ugh. They have one conversation after 6 years and she is moving in. But yet I loved it and cried throughout the entire second half.

Brooke I totally agree with the review. I was reading on it on the bus one day on my way to school because I was so hooked to it. And then of course that was when I read about the crash. I started balling on the bus. So then when I got to school everyone was staring at me like 'what's her problem'. I was like 'excuse me but unless if you have read this book you don't know anything'.

Andrea Trisha - I have a feeling you would really enjoy the movie “Ordinary People.” It won several Academy Awards and has similar themes like this book Night Road. I have no idea how old you are, so you may have already seen or known about this movie.

SecretSquirrel Oh good. I thought I was the only one who couldn’t stand Jude. What an awful woman.
