Excellent. This book is definitely for those who are cultural observers. It will not be appreciated by those who are taken up with life inside the social hive mind.

hmmm. i haven't read a book quite like this one in a long while. i did really like history of love. and also the wallace steger book i just read. you can look at my "read" list and see my reviews [none of which are this elegant, but you'll know what i think of the books]. ;D

Yes! What a rich and wonderful story! I am an artist and a dreamer and it, indeed, struck a wonderful chord in me.
As if we who dislike the book have no chance of being thinkers. You must be a "thinker" to enjoy it. Yet another self absorbed art snob at work.
I also loved this book, simply for the contemplation of beauty, of what makes life worth living, and how do you decide? I do not think only those who like it can be “thinkers”, however it is the thinkers who think about loveliness, and subtler ways of loving, who will be drawn to it. Perhaps the type of thinkers who wax on in their journals about the color of a puddle or sound of leaves.
