There's this scene with Georgiana's cats.
All of them are trapped in baskets for a long carriage ride to their new home, and one of the scraggly bastards is making life miserable for everyone involved.
It makes listening to the audiobook 100% worth it.

description

Swear to god, Rosalyn Landor had me crying. She does the yowling, highly indignant cat to absolute perfection. In fact, she pretty much does every character in Julia Quinn's books to perfection. I honestly don't think I'd find her books half as funny without Landor reading them to me.

description

As for the rest of the story? It's cute.
Georgiana is compromised in the eyes of society through no fault of her own, having been 'kidnapped' and taken for a carriage ride by a fortune hunter. Her old family friend and neighbor, Nicholas, gets pressured into asking her to marry him to avoid her ruination, and she's out of options and has to say, yes. Well, sort of. Quinn does a decent job making that weird situation palatable.

description

He's studying to be a doctor and she is an intelligent young woman who would love to have the chance to travel and work in that field, as well.
Anyway. Like I said, it's cute and (due to the cats) one of the funnier and more memorable of Quinn's stories. <--for me

Brenda Is it weird that I want to read it because cats seem to be featured somewhat?

Anne Brenda wrote: "Is it weird that I want to read it because cats seem to be featured somewhat?"

No, not at all. I'm reading a book right now whose hero is irresistible to all the cats he comes across and just that alone has upped my interest in the plot 50%. lol

Mir Why are there so many dog romance novels and few with cats?

Anne I don't know! I mean, I love dogs, but much prefer cats as pets for myself. Although, I'm quickly warming up to our little rat now.

message 5: by Mir (new)

Mir I like them both. Dogs are more work to write into plots, because dog-lovers will notice if the character fails to go home to walk the dog!

Anne Exactly! Dogs are like kids. I have enough kids, thank you very much.

Holly Ok I am absolutely adding this just for the cat content. I think every story could be made better by adding a cat. And one of my favorite Quinn books so far is Because of Miss Bridgerton, which starts off with a cat on a roof. So there we go.

Anne That one was cute, too! But you HAVE to get the audiobook for this one. Promise me!

Promise!

Anne Tell me what you think because now I'm scared I've oversold it. lol

Holly Update: you did not oversell the cat content. That crap was hilarious by audiobook. I basically just want an audiobook all about Cathead. Georgiana and Nicholas I will forget about tomorrow, but that cat had me rolling with laughter.

Marissa Rosalyn makes the best cat noises! In the How to Marry a Marquis audiobook she made a really weird meow noise for lady Danbury’s cat and I almost fell out of my chair 😂

Anne YES! YES! I loved her cat noises in HtMaM, too! I think she is an amazing narrator.

Holly And now I am going to add that book to my list too. I'm a sucker for stories that include crazy cats. I'm officially a crazy cat person.

Emily Seadin Ms. Landor did a swell job reading the cat parts, I give you that, but it was really killing the romance for me. I honestly had to skip.

message 16: by Anne (new) - rated it 4 stars

Anne So the cat killed the romance for you? lol I'm sorry. That's too bad.

Angelika Gosh, I totally agree with you about the narrator. She is fab! I stopped listening to other audiobooks because the narrator wasn’t nearly as good … And the cat … well …😹

Anne I actively look for her now. She's just amazing. If nothing else, the Bridgertons and Roksebys introduced me to Rosalyn Landor.

Victoria I didn't really have an interest in this series but want to give it a go now because of your cat review 😂👍

message 20: by Anne (new) - rated it 4 stars

Anne It all hinges on listening to the book, Victoria. Hah! I hope you enjoy it if you do decide to read it.

Brenda Hey Anne what is the name of the novel where the hero is irresistible to cats that you mentioned earlier? Any good?

message 22: by Tandie (new) - added it

Tandie Your cat review reeled me in! Cats are so plotting & evil. The cranky looking cat applauding is a treat that I thank you for! I also enjoy Rosalind Landor. She brings the funny without crossing into slapstick or annoyingly farcical. I need a bit of sweet romantical fluff with my serving of torture kitties. Is the romance any fun?

I'm so sorry! I can't remember.

No. the romance isn't particularly fun, just the cat stuff. And probably only with Landor as the narrator. It's not a bad book, especially if you love Quinn's writing.

Anne That sounds terrible! I don't know, I have a hard time recommending Quinn.
