I feel bad giving this 3-stars but the goodreads rating system is based on whether or not we like this book, and not about how good the book is.
I personally find it great; I love the writing style, it flows nicely, easy to read, but still beautiful. I like the theme and I can see just how much research had been done to be able to write something as detailed and somehow personal like this. However, perhaps because the story was meant to highlight the struggle of these activists, it just... got repetitive at times. I feel like what I read was just torture after torture, grieving and more grieving. People said that this book is sad and heart wrenching but I barely felt anything. I truly feel empathetic with what they’re going through and I also like how I was able to learn more about what really happened /back then/ but.. since there’s so many repetitions it stopped being sad to me. It falls flat and probably a bit anticlimactic.
Well, perhaps this is another case of ‘it’s not the book, it’s me.’
