it was ok

Oh, I'm such a liar. This wasn't three stars, it was two. While I love some of Connie's other works, this one doesn't work for me. Logically inept, grossly meandering and strongly in need of some editing. While I liked pieces of the storyline, as a whole it lacked enough coherence to be enjoyable.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* hahahahah! I love it

carol. (not getting notifications) Ha! Thank you. I wanted to like it--she's written two of my favorite books--but just could not.

And I'm still a liar. It wasn't really even "ok."

MrsJoseph *grouchy* Its even funnier because I read your other review of this first.

And this one: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

carol. (not getting notifications) Kemper's was awesome, wasn't it?

carol. (not getting notifications) Ooops, didn't realize I had a duplicate. Well, the first was when I was trying to be optimistic and positive. But I struggled so much to finish it, it really was a lie.

So awesome. :-D Epic, even.

See I thought you did it on purpose to call yourself a liar, lol.

carol. (not getting notifications) That's funny. I might have, but forgot.

Shelli This is gonna sound crazy (because I also feel the same way you do about this book), but All Clear – which isn't even a sequel but rather just part two – is an entirely different book. It's actually excellent, with most of the hideously annoying problems of Blackout unrepeated. Really weird, but there it is!

carol. (not getting notifications) That is interesting, Shelli. I never went on to part II because this was such a struggle. Glad you enjoyed the second half!

Alexandra I agree about this one, it dragged a lot and definitely needed more editing. I'm trying to remember if I thought All Clear was better, I think so, I don't remember it being as draggy as this one. Not up to the same level of "The Doomsday Book" or "To Say Nothing Of The Dog" though.

carol. (not getting notifications) I adore TSNotD.

Me too! It's one of the books I often recommend to friends. And those that take me up on it have liked it too. :D

I really liked Doomsday Book too, but it's very different and I don't really have any desire to re-read it. I've read TSNotD three times so far.

carol. (not getting notifications) Never wanted to re-read Doomsday, but I've read TSNotD many times :)
