“It’s always been the same reason. My mama…she doesn’t have anyone else. When she told me it was wrong, that what I was going through was just a phase that I’d get over if I tried hard enough—if I loved her enough. I knew I had to try.” His arms came off me and he scrubbed his hair. “It was earlier this year when I knew I couldn’t do it anymore. It wasn’t all bad with Liddie, you know. She just wasn’t…she could never be you.” He glanced to the foliage. “Do you think…”
“Think what?” I asked.
He closed his eyes. “I want a new beginning with you, Lenny. Can we have that?”

if im being honest, i was a bit hesitant going into this after discovering the two MCs, Lenny and Julian, are first cousins. it’s just a personal preference where im not a fan of romances between characters who are blood related (i love anything taboo/forbidden but still have some limits, i admit lol. idk why, it’s just how my brain works 😭), but i gave this a try bc i loved the other two books i’ve read by Anyta Sunday, rock and True Colors! to my surprise, i became invested in seeing how Lenny and Julian's romance would develop. the friendship they bonded over the years was so pure and that’s what drew me to their connection in the beginning, but the moment they were willing to stick together in the end (once all is revealed and whether family/friends would support them or not) was when they captured my heart. 🥺🤍

im only giving this four stars bc i wasn’t in love the way i had been with the previous books i’ve mentioned. although this trope isn’t my first choice, if i loved it, i would have given it a full five stars regardless so it honestly has nothing to do with them being first cousins, but it’s more of the story/characters didn’t 100% captivate me in comparison—even tho i still pretty much adored them and would highly rec if you’re interested! i loved (most of) the side characters as well, especially their grandma. ✨

alyssa beautiful review, moonlight!! 💖 the fact that i literally finished this book right when you posted this 🤣 OUR MINDS ARE SO IN SYNC 🤝 i also loved watching their relationship develop but found myself not connecting as much to the mcs as i did with rock either. and yes Oma is the best wacky grandma ever!!! my relief upon reaching the end knowing that she’s still alive and kicking 👏🏼👏🏼 hope you continue to enjoy your Anyta Sunday binge!!

thank you, alyssa! 🤍 omg we should have br if i had known you were going to read this 🤣 and same!! Cooper and Jace are still on my mind 😭 but i definitely adored Lenny and Julian as well and it was beautiful seeing their friendship grow, leading it into an actual relationship. i was so, so happy when Oma was immediately accepting and even had to tell off Julian's mom! i actually have you to thank bc it was your review of rock that pushed me to try AS' books sooner, do you have other recs of hers? 👀

alyssa ah man we really should’ve!! look at us with Rock living in our brains rent free 🤣 completely agree!! i will never get over how skillfully Anyta Sunday gets the ball rolling from the very get-go and artfully portrays their development thru even the simplest of scenes. Oma was way ahead of them (like about time, boys! 😂) and good riddance to Julian’s mom, though i do hope she eventually comes around. awww i’m so happy to hear that!! thank YOU for enthusiastically plunging in headfirst! 😋 i feel like i keep mentioning the Signs of Love series *winkwinknudgenudge* LOL but Noticed Me Yet? is another cute short read i’d recommend!

idk how she does it, but im loving her writing style and the way she develops the romance in each books i've read so far! 😭 i knew Oma wouldn't let me down with her reaction once they revealed their relationship. 😏 let's hope for the best with the mom but, even if she doesn't, im happy to see Lenny and Julian have a fresh start in their lives!! oh, thank you! haha, im definitely going to try the Signs of Love series soon and i've seen Noticed Me Yet? around so i've been eyeing that one as well.

ur welcome!💛 and with that praise i really gotta read true colors!!

~SZ~ 💜 cats & coffee Great review! This is a book I’ve had on my TBR for so long! You’ve brought it to my attention because it was stuck in that miles long TBR pile that I never know if I’ll get through! I loved Rock so much and nothing I’ve read by Sunday has ever compared but your review gives me hope that it’s a beautiful story.

message 10: by Candy (new) - added it

Candy M. Not me adding this as soon as you mentioned the first-cousin angle 😌 and Marci already told me this was quite an emotional and beautiful story too! And I loved True Colors too, Marco's was a great POV character and the groveling in that one gave me everything I needed.

thank you so much! i hope you'll enjoy it as much as i did! 🥰 rock and true colors are my fav AS books rn, but this comes as a close second, for sure!

lmaoo, only AS can make me love a plot like that i guess 😭 omgg i loved true colors! i think rock and true colors are a tie as my fav AS books atm, i can't choose between the two. i agree, the grovel was pretty good in that one. im usually picky with grovels bc most tend to just stay flat but, by the end, i was able to feel Oskar and Marco's love. 😩
