Audiobook (10 hours) narrated by Jeremy Arthur

For the most part the narration and audio quality are high, without distortion, erroneous noise, or obvious edits.
🤭 In this book there is a pre-teen girl, Violet. For some reason Jeremy Arthur's chosen voice, that he has given her and used throughout the 10 hours... keep in mind that she is not a small side character.. is the voice of an elderly women. Why?
Jeremy voices several young adult and middle aged women just fine. Why he gives this young girl an aged voice that sounds like the adult female characters mother or grandmother is beyond my imagination. Outside of this 🤭 style choice, the narration is great.

This novel is a follow up to Sand, written 8 years prior.

My first thoughts of Sand in my original review were:
Anakin would hate this book. I love it! So creative!

My first thought going into this novel is thankfulness for the author giving us readers a link, https://www.harpercollins.com/pages/a..., to the associated pdf to the audiobook so that those of us who borrow can easily access it! Yay! 🥳

I enjoyed being back in this unique world of sand diving 🏜️🤿.

This is not the action packed treasure hunting, fact finding, soul searching novel of it's predecessor. There is action, mystery, and political strife, at a slower pace. A lot of questions that were asked in Sand are answered. Some remain a mystery.

The introduction of Violet throws off the family balance, and perhaps the overall balance to the story. While I like her character, the dynamics between the brothers are no longer there, as Violet now stands between them.

While the story doesn't drag, and it does remain interesting throughout, it loses some of it's luster and just doesn't hit as hard as I expected.

I am not unhappy that I read this, I would recommend it for anyone who enjoyed the first novel, and if ever there was to be a third, I would be all over it.

Recommend.

She's a little girl and the poor narrator is so bad at her voice that he makes her sound like an old woman.
What's more funny is that his other female voices of teens and women are fine. Just how? 😂
Oh.and a couple of lazy obvious edits.
The story is slow but so interesting and intriguing. Glad it's a busy day so I can read more!"
