Den tomma stolen (Lincoln Rhyme, #3)
by

Slow and uninteresting (and silly at times, a manhunt in a remote area is not handled by helicopters, dogs or search parties, but Rhyme tries to find out where the suspect is going by putting soil samples through a GC.....) at the start of the book, picks up pace in the middle to disappoint in the end. Characters are out of chararcter, plot twists are not very believable. I'm guessing writers block on this one, not recommended...

"The empty chair"; I find him hit-and-miss. Sometimes amazingly nail-bitingly and heart-thumpingly suspenseful and sometimes one twist too many bringing the whole construction down. And then there's this one...
I think the whole start with the manhunt being conducted by a) assuming that the bad guy had been hanging out somewhere in the vicinity before the deed and b) assuming that he would return there and c) finding out where that may be by GC analysis of dirt the perp might have left behind ruined the whole thing for me. I may have been in a bad mood also...
