Becoming Supernatural: How Common People are Doing the Uncommon:
"There are parts of me that really want to buy into Joe’s philosophy which appear to me to claim the ability to control outcomes over life beyond what is realistic or healthy I think. However, no matter how much I’ve tried to entertain it, I always co"

“Be yourself; no base imitator of another, but your best self. There is something which you can do better than another. Listen to the inward voice and bravely obey that. Do the things at which you are great, not what you were never made for.”

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

“The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter. ’tis the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.”

“Life moves on, whether we act as cowards or heroes. Life has no other discipline to impose, if we would but realize it, than to accept life unquestioningly. Everything we shut our eyes to, everything we run away from, everything we deny, denigrate or despise, serves to defeat us in the end. What seems nasty, painful, evil, can become a source of beauty, joy, and strength, if faced with an open mind. Every moment is a golden one for him who has the vision to recognize it as such”

Thank you for being my friend. It's a pleasure to e-meet you.
Your interest in philosophy caught my eye; then - Tom Robbins.
I e-met someone last Tuesday (8/05). This friend emailed saying: "my politics range from ..., ala Tom Robbins". My response included the following:
I just read about Tom Robbins in Wikipedia. It will probably take years before I could check out his books because I have plans for the next eight years, but I will. Wikipedia says Tom Robbins is an admirer of Indian mystic Osho who spoke against socialism and institutionalized religion.
I, too, am against socialism and religion devoid of reason.
These are two dictionary.com definitions of anarchy:
3. a theory that regards the absence of all direct or coercive government as a political ideal and that proposes the cooperative and voluntary association of individuals and groups as the principal mode of organized society.
4. confusion; chaos; disorder
I have always thought of anarchy as confusion; chaos; disorder. It is not a word usually associated with the # 3 definition which refers to individual rights. This excerpt from Reason Reigns is based on Ayn Rand’s ideas which I agree with:
Chapter 10 - Individual Rights
The Devil’s Eye citizens pondered the security issues raised by Lola, and took vigorous action. They accomplished many things within the eight months that Tony and Lola were in the Union of Ibelyn.
Hugo and his countrymen discussed the Constitution Ron drafted for their sovereign nation. They defined constitutional principles and enshrined individual rights.
“Every private individual is free to do anything except that which is expressly forbidden by law. Every man has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
“No man may initiate the use of force. No man may impose his will, beliefs, or values on another. No single individual may be sacrificed for another or for the majority.”
They established a government with this principle: “The only purpose of law and of government is the protection of individual rights.”
“A government official may do nothing except that which is expressly permitted by law.”
“The government functions are: to settle disputes according to objective laws, and to protect citizens from foreign invaders and criminals.”
* * * end of excerpt
I like your review of Surviving Little League, and what you said to Karen - I hope you would check out my novel, Reason Reigns (I posted the first 88 pages under "My Writing"). I will also invite you to join my groups. It would be a joy talking with you.
I wish you all the best. Have a fun weekend,
Ilyn
