I'm on the verge of releasing info about my next book which is a 200K word sci fi (and kind of fantasy) book which is the beginning of a trilogy. I'll be doing cover art reveal in the next few weeks. The Inspiration of Distraction

As a writer, I usually keep myself open to ideas. I read fantasy novels, watch bad sci fi movies, play open world video games and talk about my writing with family and friends, hoping to spark new ideas for stories. I have no idea where inspiration comes from, but I had an experience the other day which showed me what I’ve been doing wrong.

It was a mystery that would never be solved no matter how Read more of this blog post »

Wick’s Recent Updates

A Tide of Black Steel by Anthony Ryan
"3.5 Stars
This is a solid start to a new epic fantasy story. It's clear that this author has experience and again offers a solid story.

However my rating reflects the fact that I personally wasn't overly interested in the story this author was telling." Read more of this review »
Alien Clay by Adrian Tchaikovsky
"4.0 Stars
This is one of my favourite novels by Adrian Tchaikovsky, who is easily one of the best (and most prolific) science fiction authors writing right now.

This is the story I wanted Mercy of the Gods to be. Both novels address some similar themes" Read more of this review »

Excellent prose and setting beset by plot contrivances and Dues Ex Machina.

This book was only okay but felt it had major flaws that definitely degraded my reading experience and earned only three stars from me. First with the good: the setting. Turn

Philip Roth
“--nor had I understood til then how the shameless vanity of utter fools can so strongly determine the fate of others”
Philip Roth, The Plot Against America

Noam Chomsky
“Hamas is regularly described as 'Iranian-backed Hamas, which is dedicated to the destruction of Israel.' One will be hard put to find something like 'democratically elected Hamas, which has long been calling for a two-state settlement in accord with the international consensus'—blocked for over 30 years by the US and Israel. All true, but not a useful contribution to the Party Line, hence dispensable.”
Noam Chomsky, Gaza in Crisis: Reflections on Israel's War Against the Palestinians

Ursula K. Le Guin
“What she had begun to learn was the weight of liberty. Freedom is a heavy load, a great and strange burden for the spirit to undertake. It is not easy. It is not a gift given, but a choice made, and the choice may be a hard one. The road goes upward toward the light; but the laden traveler may never reach the end of it.”
Ursula K. Le Guin, The Tombs of Atuan

Hannah Arendt
“The sad truth is that most evil is done by people who never make up their minds to be good or evil.”
Hannah Arendt, The Life of the Mind

“In these pages, we have made propositions to meet those challenges: a sharply progressive wealth tax to curb the forms of rent extraction associated with extreme and entrenched wealth, an effective taxation of globe-straddling companies to reconcile globalization with tax justice, a national income tax to fund the modern social state and alleviate the crushing cost of health care.”
Emmanuel Saez, The Triumph of Injustice: How the Rich Dodge Taxes and How to Make Them Pay
