When Herbert Brown studied agriculture at Virginia State University, he received a scholarship from Colonial Farm Credit to support his career aspirations. After graduating, Brown began working at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and worked with Colonial Farm Credit to save his family’s 114-acre farm through a farm ownership loan. Today, his family farm in Warfield, Va., not only preserves a legacy but also nourishes the community with fresh, local produce. Fifth-generation farmers Jacob and Emily Nolan established Spring Fever Farms in Screven, Ga., in 2005, building it from the ground up. They now operate 1,700 acres of row crops and have expanded their operation to include pecans, satsumas, strawberries and other commodities. Like many farmers, the Nolan’s needed a financial partner who understood their goals and would help them grow. Over the years, they developed a long-lasting relationship with AgFirst partner AgSouth Farm Credit. “It's very important for a farmer to work with a lender that understands agriculture. AgSouth has been very beneficial in our business. Without them, we probably wouldn't be here today,” Emily said. #AgFirst #FarmCredit #Agriculture
