Coldwater Solar has signed a power purchase agreement for its full capacity. Located in Branch County, Michigan, the project represents the full range of benefits clean energy can provide for states and localities. Coldwater Solar was the first to secure Payment in Lieu of Tax agreements with local townships, made possible by new state legislation signed last year. It will generate over $30 million in new tax revenue for local schools, governments, and services—as well as income for landowners, environmental conservation efforts, and more than 200 construction jobs. Battery storage is growing quickly in the United States both because it supports the reliability of flexible sources of generation like wind and solar power and because it helps displace demand for fossil fuels. By contributing to a resilient and decarbonized electrical grid, energy storage is becoming a no-brainer. 🔋

Everything is bigger in Texas—and with some of the strongest wind and solar resources in the nation, it’s no surprise the state has seen a massive buildout of renewable technology. But just down the road from the town of Eldorado, Apex is developing a new kind of renewable project: a green hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and export facility. Although green fuels technology is nascent, its clean power foundations have been delivering reliable energy—and economic benefits—to Lone Star State communities for years. Learn more:

Our second annual Apex Academy took place last month: a free, experiential course that introduces high school students to renewable energy and equips them with some of the skills that industry professionals use on a day-to-day basis. Over the course of the program, students work with GIS software, learn how to plan a wind project, and make connections with Apex department heads and industry experts. Remarkable progress: In 2023, over 40% of the world’s electricity came from zero-carbon sources, with nearly 91% of new capacity additions from solar and wind power alone. Although we still have a long way to go in the energy transition, each year brings greater scale and efficiency. Let's keep the momentum going. 👊
