Compass Pro Bono forges lasting ties between local nonprofits and local business professionals.
About us
Compass Pro Bono forges lasting ties between local nonprofits and local business professionals to empower thriving, equitable, resilient communities. Compass Pro Bono believes that thriving, equitable, resilient communities are ones in which the local business and local nonprofit sectors are deeply interconnected. We believe that local nonprofits play a critical role in community well-being, and that local business professionals can play a critical role in local nonprofits’ success. We envision a world in which nonprofits consistently have access within their own communities to the business strategy resources they need to thrive, and in which business professionals are empowered to seamlessly leverage their business acumen to sustain the nonprofits serving their communities.

We're honored and thrilled about the role that our volunteers played in this fantastic development!
Tuesday was a very important day for SELF Inc., Philadelphia’s largest provider of emergency housing. The nonprofit unveiled its Values Statement at its sites around the city. The Values Statement is: “We lead with integrity and are committed to serving our community with accountability, compassion, dignity, and respect.” It is a culmination of feedback from staff through a partnership with Compass Pro Bono to help SELF Inc. achieve strategic alignment within its many sites and programs as it works to empower individuals experiencing homelessness. The values include: 1. Integrity: For us, integrity fosters trust between and among participants and staff. It ensures that all actions align with SELF’s mission to support those experiencing homelessness. 2. Accountability: This refers to the obligation to accept responsibility for one’s actions and decisions. For SELF, this enhances trust and success in fulfilling the nonprofit’s mission to combat homelessness. 3. Compassion: This is the heartfelt concern for the suffering of others and a desire to help alleviate that suffering. Compassion drives SELF to provide not only essential services but also emotional support and understanding to those who are experiencing homelessness. 4. Dignity: This is the recognition of the inherent worth of every individual. For SELF, upholding the dignity of those we serve means treating participants and staff with respect, valuing their life experiences, and involving them in decisions that affect their lives. 5. Respect: SELF staff and participants recognize and honor the rights, feelings, and perspectives of others. Respect entails creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, embracing diversity, and ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their circumstances, are treated fairly and with kindness. “We are excited to share our values with the community,” said CEO Dr. Shirlana Dash, PhD. “These principles will guide our work, reinforce our commitment to serving those in need, and cultivate a culture of empathy and kindness.”
