This week, #Fairfax County became the center of gravity for #quantum as more than 1,000 pioneers, visionaries and innovators from 30 countries converged in #Tysons for the third annual Quantum World Congress. As Dr. #VilhelmBohr was recounting his great grandfather and Nobel Laureate #NielsBohr’s incredible legacy to science at the opening reception of #QWC2024, you couldn’t help but feel that we are all truly standing on the shoulders of giants. In just three short years, incredible advancements have been made from research to commercialization and workforce development to prepare the world for the quantum future. For example, leaders from Microsoft and Quantinuum announced groundbreaking advancements in quantum computing and its integration with #AI. Together, they have achieved the most reliable 12 logical qubits on record, marking a huge leap toward fault-tolerant quantum computing. This collaboration is fueling a new age of scientific innovation, with hybrid applications set to transform fields like chemistry, biochemistry, and materials science. Read more about this announcement in CIO Online - https://lnkd.in/eG_mXdcU My heartfelt congratulations to Stu Solomon, George D Thomas and the entire Connected DMV team for sharing our collective vision and building such a magnificent event from the ground up. Together, through global collaboration, we are shaping the quantum future, and Fairfax County Economic Development Authority is honored to be a founding sponsor of this premier gathering of global significance. Fairfax County Economic Development Authority President and CEO Victor Hoskins was named on the “2024 Virginia Power 500” list by Virginia Business for the fifth consecutive year. Hoskins has led the FCEDA since 2019, when he made the move from Arlington Economic Development after helping bring Amazon’s HQ2 to the state. FCEDA has helped the county land a string of new headquarters recently, including The Aerospace Corporation, space cybersecurity firm SpiderOak and NetApp, which established its U.S. public sector headquarters in Tysons. Among his many philanthropic and volunteer positions, Hoskins sits on the George Mason University President’s Innovation Advisory Council and the advisory council for Blueprint Virginia 2030. He is vice president of the Capital Area Food Bank’s board of directors. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and a master’s degree in city planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In March 2023, Hoskins received a Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from The White House. Asked by Virginia Business about one thing he’d change about Virginia, Hoskins replied: “Exponentially expand the number of internships for high school and college students.” For a book he would recommend, Hoskins suggested: “Hidden Potential: The Science of Achieving Greater Things,” by Adam Grant. ➡ https://lnkd.in/eRSEk7CW

Costello means business at George Mason University Korea. George Mason University – Costello College of Business has a close relationship with universities, local businesses, government agencies, incubators, and accelerators in Korea, Viet Nam, India, and Qatar. That's why Costello Associate Dean for Outreach and Strategic Engagement (and Fairfax City Economic Development Commissioner) Patrick Soleymani met recently with members of the Korea Technology Finance Corporation, Mason Korea Dean Joshua Park, Mason Korea Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs Shannon N. Davis, Mason Korea's Industry-University Collaboration Foundation (IUCF), and over 20 industry leaders to explore global expansion opportunities in Northern Virginia for tech entrepreneurs. Associate Dean Soleymani also met with Charles KS Kim, Director, Seoul Office of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority, during a lunch meeting with the Mason Korea Dean's Advisory Board. Our collaboration with Mason Korea, its local industry, and our economic partners in Northern Virginia is part of our continued acceleration of the business college's global engagement. We're grateful to our Korean hosts for their hospitality and the opportunity to work together on this and other student and workforce development initiatives. #CostelloMeansBusiness #MasonKorea #IUCF #WorkforceDevelopment #GeorgeMasonUniversity #AllTogetherDifferent #NorthernVirginia
