Perhaps not directly, but there is potential:
It wasn’t until the 1970s that the Netherlands discovered the secret to sustainable cities lies on two wheels. Today, almost 30% of Dutch people cycle to work. For Florida, that percentage is 0.4% 🚲
That’s why, earlier this year, a group of elected officials, urban planners, and transportation officials decided to travel to the Netherlands as part of the Netherlands Bike Immersion Program, to experience the transformative power of cycling infrastructure 🇳🇱
This week, we debriefed on the trip, joined by Consul General Lisette den Breems, Stefan Theunissen, Mayor Alix Desulme, Mayor Eric Diaz-Padron, Miami-Dade TPO Executive Director Aileen Bouclé, AICP, Broward County Comissioner Beam Furr, and Palm Beach TPA Executive Director Valerie Neilson, AICP
Together with Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization, Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency (TPA), we aim to explore innovative, but also practical Dutch-inspired (business) solutions for enhancing Miami-Dade County and Southeast Florida’s mobility and sustainability in their own way. Dutch innovators and business have lots to offer 📍
