Through simulation, we ensure our residents perform complex surgical procedures dozens and dozens of times before operating on our patients. Learning in a simulated environment allows our residents to ask questions and develop the necessary muscle memory needed for an actual procedure. During Health Care Simulation Week, here’s an in-depth look at our Bioskills Education Center, where our residents recently completed a simulated aortic root replacement surgery. Note: Everything seen in this video is a simulation. This is not a real patient!

September is National Atrial Fibrillation Awareness Month. AFib is an irregular and often very rapid heart rhythm that could lead to blood clots in the heart – thus increasing the risk of stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications. At our Institute, we’re always exploring new methods to treat our patients, including the recently FDA-approved pulsed field ablation, a catheter therapy that uses short bursts of high energy to affect heart tissue that causes AFib. Stavros Mountantonakis, MD, MBA, chair of electrophysiology at Lenox Hill Hospital, was the first physician on the East Coast to use this novel technology. Learn more about AFib through our Center for Arrhythmias: https://bit.ly/47m3J2a
