The resume is dying. I've been hearing that almost since I started in the recruiting industry. A quick Google search on the topic turns up an article from 2012 in the first 20 results. I've never really believed it until this year though. It seems like there is less trust than ever in what is represented on resumes. With GenAI, it is easier than ever to put together a competent looking resume that matches just about any job description. That means also easier than ever to add dishonest information to a resume. I've never been a person that thinks a large portion of candidates are lying about their experience. I like to think that most people are good and default to telling the truth. But the level of ease with which people can lie now is eroding trust in the resume at a really rapid rate. The thing is, I'm not sure that the recruiting world has a ready alternative to this piece of paper that so many hiring transactions are based on.

I'm of the opinion that the worst possible outcome when hiring is for a new hire to start and then leave the position in the first 6 months. For any reason. That scenario typically sets back whatever business priorities that person was hired to address back by close to a year. There are varying estimates how much that costs a company, but bottom line is that it's a lot. That's why Singleton Group focuses on augmenting our clients' onboarding process in a high touch way as part of our standard recruiting process. We see our role as not just putting the right person into a seat, but helping them make the intended impact. That effort shouldn't end on day 1.
