In 2023, we helped our customers avoid 430 kilotons of Scope 4 greenhouse gas emissions, the equivalent of planting more than 7.1 million trees. Over the past few years, firms of all sizes are making public commitments, pledging to achieve ambitious goals for reducing their impact on the environment. This includes reducing their greenhouse gas emissions, something we can help achieve through energy efficiency and conservation, digital energy management, analytics and greenhouse gas reporting, on-site generation of low-carbon power and more. This is just one highlight from our recently released 2024 Sustainability Report, available now for download. Crossville, Tennessee, is a growing community because of the character of its people and the natural beauty of its surroundings in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. City leaders have the responsibility of serving a growing population and economy while protecting the environmental vitality of the Obed River, a critical feature of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. Our municipal water team is proud to bring its global resources and local commitment to this mission. The success of our 30-plus-year relationship with Crossville is on display in the rushing waters of the Obed, just feet below our treated wastewater discharge point. Earlier this year, the city extended our relationship until 2029, with Crossville born-and-raised project manager Darian Dykes and his team on the job every day to help their community meet its sustainability goals for a strong future.

Being a leader in the water industry means sharing your expertise and learning from your colleagues so millions of people across America can benefit from better water. That's why Veolia's experts were busy at the National Association of Water Companies' 2024 Water Summit last week, helping advance the industry as a whole and all the people who rely on it. Our Deputy CIO Douwe Busschops offered hard-earned lessons on how to prepare for the threat of a cyberattack on critical infrastructure. Abbey Barksdale, our VP of business development in our municipal water utility division, outlined how Veolia's Barometer of Ecological Transformation survey shows that people are ready to embrace improvements that help protect them against a changing climate. And our Municipal Water CEO, Karine Rougé, capped the conference with a panel discussion about what regulators are watching in the water industry—as well as a toast to the 50th anniversary of the Clean Water Act, the law that transformed Americans' expectations of the top-quality water service they deserve. Veolia's leaders know we have a responsibility to help protect America's water systems—and events like the NAWC 2024 Water Summit help us do it.

Our engineered fuels program evaluates non-hazardous industrial byproducts like plastics, packaging scraps, debris and more, then shreds and decontaminates the materials to use them as an alternative fuel in cement kilns. This is a 100% closed-loop circular economy solution, as the ash is integrated into the product and not sent to a landfill. Annually, we recover 240,000 pounds of waste to use in the production of cement, and through this process of repurposing engineered fuels. Want to learn more about how #engineeredfuels work?
