I didn’t search for the name; it found me.🤩 For weeks, every time I discussed my rebrand—the strategy, the purpose, the vision, the mission, the values—you know the drill—I kept referring to the new entity as “Company X.” 🤔 Initially, it was just a placeholder, a way to distance myself from North 17, to clear my head from all the baggage attached to it. But then, after putting my company through the rigorous rebranding process and watching all the pieces fall into place, one critical element remained: What do I call this new chapter? 💡 I posed the question to someone I trust, and their response was simple: “You already know the name… you’ve been calling it that for weeks.” And just like that, Company X was born. 🎉 Now, don’t get me wrong. This wasn’t just a cheeky choice. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense. ✅ Remember those math problems we struggled with? We were always solving for X. ✅ When searching for treasure, X marks the spot. ✅ X stands for the unknown and “the place” you want to be. Besides all these factual reasons, let’s face it—there’s something a little cheeky about it. It makes people stop and ask, “𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲.” And isn’t that exactly what we aim for with a rebrand? To provoke curiosity, to intrigue, to stand out? Company X isn’t just a name. It’s a symbol of everything we strive to solve, discover, and become. As an #entrepreneur deeply immersed in the world of technology and sustainability, I've learned that acknowledging success is just as crucial as navigating challenges. 🚀 I'll be honest – I've always struggled with receiving praise. It's not that I don't appreciate it; it's more about my inherent desire to keep moving forward, striving for the next goal. 🎯 However, I realised after sometime that no one in the team was celebrating success. It seems like my aversion to it was having an unintended effect on the culture of my team. It struck me the most when we won a huge project but everyone carried on like it was nothing. It was heart breaking to see my team not feeling like they could celebrate. Over time, I've come to realize that celebrating wins isn't just about acknowledging personal achievements but fostering a positive culture within our teams and organizations. It's a key element in the journey of culture transformation. 🌐 I've learned that by embracing victories, we not only recognize the hard work and dedication of our teams but also inspire a collective sense of accomplishment. Bold ideas can be scary. We've heard it time and time again – so many companies say “we want you to think outside the box” but don’t really mean it. We recently lost a pitch because ultimately our idea scared the prospect, even though they were impressed by it. But, we gave them what they asked for: a bold and unique idea that had the potential to create a FRENZY in their industry. The takeaway is to continue to think outside the box, even if the brand goes in a different direction in the end. I always hear "culture starts at the top." That's why I am headed to Justworks this morning to meet with fellow Founders for #FoundersCircle. A men's group for early-stage founders in NYC to form relationships IRL and work on strengthening the very self they found with. I have 20+ reasons for starting Founder Circle. Today I will share one: a thesis. We all know you need PMF, a GTM motion, talent, and maybe funding. To get these things, Founders need and, importantly, form (on the fly often) certain values and personality traits (i.e., the desire to make money with impact, grit). In my experience, often without reflection on what led to success, successes reinforce certain traits as "effective". Again, these traits drive the culture that drives the business. It's weird that currently, founders build the cultural backbone of the organization on the fly. Worse yet, this self-work often happens in isolation creating the feeling I call "lonely founder syndrome". My vision: Founders work on their values in a community that gets them. My bet: Founders who intentionally form their personal operating model for founding will succeed when otherwise they would not. Following my one to one sessions with the members, I sometimes can draw three completely different images that represent how directors see their group working. Pictures with the good, the bad, and… not just the ugly, but particularly tricky, also the rosy. Directors will often be stunned when they realize how much goes unnoticed because we are conditioned to be polite, particularly when a group first comes together. And that, even in boards that assess their board meetings using google forms or other survey instruments. And whilst some boards collect this kind of info, they don’t necessarily have the insightful conversation about what the data points mean.
