This begs the question: could an operation as big as Operation Overlord maintain operational security from planning to execution in the modern age? Is it plausible to “pull off” something this big? Or has the modern surveillance state negated the ability to plan, prepare, and execute a “surprise” large scale invasion? Then again, did Russia prove it is possible in 2022? 🤷♂️ #Strategy #DDay #Army #Normandy

### The 101st Airborne Division's Heroic Jump on D-Day On June 6, 1944, the 101st Airborne Division, known as the "Screaming Eagles," played a pivotal role in the Allied invasion of Normandy, France, during World War II. This daring airborne operation, part of the larger D-Day invasion, aimed to disrupt German defenses and secure key positions ahead of the main amphibious assault on the beaches. The 101st Airborne, along with the 82nd Airborne Division, was tasked with parachuting behind enemy lines during the night and early morning hours to capture and hold critical roadways, bridges, and causeways, ensuring the success of the seaborne landings that would follow at dawn. The jump itself was fraught with chaos and peril. Due to poor weather conditions, intense anti-aircraft fire, and navigational errors, the paratroopers were scattered over a wide area, far from their intended drop zones. Many soldiers landed in swamps, fields, and enemy-held territories, often miles from their objectives. Despite these disorienting and hazardous conditions, the highly trained and determined members of the 101st Airborne quickly regrouped into small units or even operated independently. Their ability to adapt under pressure and their unwavering mission focus allowed them to initiate a series of effective, albeit impromptu, assaults on German positions. One of the most significant achievements of the 101st Airborne on D-Day was the capture and securing of the town of Sainte-Mère-Église, one of the first towns liberated in Normandy. This victory provided a crucial stronghold for the Allies and disrupted German counterattack plans. Additionally, the paratroopers played a vital role in securing key causeways and bridges over the Douve River, essential for the movement of Allied forces inland. The success of these operations severely hampered German ability to mobilize reinforcements and launch effective counterattacks against the advancing Allied troops. The bravery and resourcefulness of the 101st Airborne Division during the D-Day operations were instrumental in the overall success of the Normandy invasion. Their actions not only demonstrated the effectiveness of airborne forces in modern warfare but also cemented the division's legendary status. The courageous efforts of the "Screaming Eagles" on that fateful day exemplify the indomitable spirit and determination that were crucial in overcoming the formidable defenses of Nazi-occupied Europe, marking the beginning of the end for the Axis powers in World War II.
Incredible! 97-year-old WWII paratrooper vet returned to Normandy to recreate his D-Day jump. 🫡 https://lnkd.in/eR2QBJDa

Looking to better democracy, intersect scientific education, environmental empathy, with innovative social policy.
The terrible beauty of war, or a military ethos, can be presented without conflict or confrontation through glorification of (not terror) but the romance of self-sacrifice and self-courage… especially in the vein of Kriegsbruderlichkeit (collective over the individual). These interstitial elements of self-sacrifice and self-courage compose important elements of life, not just organized theaters of games with violence.

The Philippines is on the front lines fighting against China's political, economic, and military warfare, and it has devised clever, effective tactics to fight back. One of its most brilliant strategies is called Angels of the Sea, which is discussed on this episode of China Unscripted, along with important history of China's illegal claims to the Philippines' territory, China's massive, armed Maritime Militia's and Coast Guard's role in the rape of the land and waters there, the US government's increasingly helpful response to China's aggression, and how the situation is changing in the region. Joining "China Unscripted" in this episode is David F. Day, the chairman of the Global Risk Mitigation Foundation, and one of the leading international legal practitioners on the Indo-Pacific region, including the Philippines. This interview provides extraordinary insight on Chinese Communist Party aggression that could ultimately ignite a war in East Asia. #chinaunscripted #southchinasea #usindopacificcommand #pla #maritimemilitia #usmarines #politicalwarfare #hybridwarfare #grayzoneoperations #philippines
