What operating system does your company work on? Last week, Shortlist Futures started on our EOS journey, an entrepreneurial “operating system” used by nearly 20,000 businesses worldwide. Our COO Austen Stranahan and I tried to implement this last year based on reading the book "Traction" by Gino Wickman and, umm, we failed. This time we brought in a professional, Shane Bohbrink, to serve as our coach, guide, & sherpa to the promised land. After day 1, Austen and I looked at each other and concluded: Yeah, there was no way this would have worked on our own. Was a great day with our Futures leaders: Austen, Ciara Marie Remerscheid, Dwayne Asembo, Shivani Kotecha, and Ganesh Ashok Gavankar. The day was surprisingly tactical. I expected it to be big picture vision, BHAGs, etc., and instead we got into the nuts and bolts of roles and accountability, meeting structure, short term “Rocks” (like OKRs), and an emerging list of issues we need to sort in the coming weeks/months. My highlight: the accountability chart, which is like an org chart but waayyyy more practical and useful for the day-to-day management of a company. Day Two happens next month and I can’t wait :)
