In a few weeks’ time, I’m participating in Coastrek with 3 of my oldest and dearest friends. Coastrek is Australia’s most iconic hiking challenge, proudly supporting the Heart Foundation. Along with thousands of other Coastrekkers, mostly women, I will be walking to fundraise for heart health. Every day, 20 Australian women lose their lives to heart disease. But we can make a difference by donating to raise life-saving funds for the Heart Foundation. 2024 has been a stressful year for me and I have been neglecting my physical and mental health. This walk is an opportunity for me to reset my focus on health and wellbeing. What’s best is that I get to do that with my little gang of wonderful supportive friends. I’m looking forward to a few hours of reconnecting with them and myself as we walk a section of the beautiful Qld coast. All fundraising from Coastrek in 2024 will go towards supporting the Heart Foundation. If you can support, every little bit helps to close the gender gap in heart health for women. I’ve just finished reading ‘Wifedom - Mrs Orwell’s Invisible Life’ by Anna Funder. This was not an easy read. Harrowing at times but highly recommended. As a mother of two girls, I often find myself anguished about the world in which they will live as adolescents and beyond. Amongst her closing remarks of this brilliant book, Anna Funder has gifted me great hope with this about her own daughter: ‘It gives me a sense of awe that someone at seventeen can understand instinctively what it seems to be my life’s work to unravel. Where will she get to, this young woman? She is starting out in a place I’ve only just reached.’ Big thanks to Dr Janine Rix for stirring me to read this one. An absolute cracker ✨👌🏼
