#SKhynix, #TSMC, and #NVIDIA Reportedly Forge Alliance to Develop Next-Generation #HBM Memory leader #SKHynix is forging a closer partnership with industry giants #TSMC and #NVIDIA, according to a BusinessKorea report. The announcement is expected at the upcoming Semicon Taiwan exhibition in September. This collaboration builds upon a long-standing relationship between SK Hynix and TSMC. In 2022, TSMC established the OIP #3DFabric Alliance, specifically targeting partnerships in memory and packaging technologies. During the alliance launch, SK Hynix emphasized its close cooperation with TSMC on previous and current high-bandwidth memory (#HBM) iterations. This collaboration ensures compatibility with CoWoS processes and HBM interconnectivity. Check full insights via the link below https://lnkd.in/gkY7_Tmf

https://lnkd.in/gfkWh8hA A tale of two logic foundry markets. It's interesting that while SMIC is signalling oversupply and weak demand, TSMC is more or less sold out on the bleeding edge process nodes and the company increased billing by 60% in April. It seems to make sense since markets like automotive have been slowing down at the same time as the datacenter/AI/HPC segment is still booming and the smartphone and PC markets are seeing a rebound. As for myself, I am holding on to my TSMC shares... #semiconductors #foundry #tsmc

Allocating 10% of CapEx to Advanced packaging does not sound ambitious unless you are TSMC. The Foundry 2.0 Strategy (yawn) is a frontal attack on the Outsourced Assembly and Test (OSAT) market, which is less capital-intensive than the Foundry market. TSMC's Advanced Packaging CapEx for 2024 is at the same level as the CapEx of the top 5 spenders in the OSAT market. Intel also has a 2.0 Strategy for conquering the Foundry market, which will probably be followed by a 3.0 Strategy for winning the packaging market. #TSMC #OSAT #Semiconductor https://lnkd.in/gBbxTrv6

Exciting developments are taking place in the world of semiconductor technology! Leading players in the industry, including TSMC and GF, are pushing for the integration of emerging non-volatile memories (NVM) into production. To ensure European semiconductor companies are at the forefront of this cutting-edge technology, we need to gain a comprehensive understanding of the underlying physical mechanisms driving these emerging NVM devices. This endeavor is made possible through the support of the IPCEI program (https://www.ipcei-me.eu/), a European initiative aimed at developing European semiconductor leadership.

If you're interested in the chip history, this talk by TSMC's legendary founder Morris Chang is a must-watch. His talk ranges from a little history (Texas Instruments, Fairchild, etc.), why TSMC is so successful, to lessons going forward. (An aside: I've said in the past that TSMC should not try to build fabs in the United States or most other Western countries (or India), and Chang provides some insight into why. Oddly enough, it's TSMC that seems to be operating in contradiction with their founder's own advice by trying to build in Arizona and India, among other places. It won't work. These places don't have the right culture, talent, or infrastructure in place. I would expect most of the next wave of successful fabs to be in Southeast Asia.)
